New DD: not for sensitive eyes

Sold the civic, picked up a new DD. What has 4 doors, is technologically advanced, a hatch layout, excellent MPG, and practicality, all while being inexpensive to buy, insure, and maintain? Yea, I went there. This one has painted headlights/taillights, H&R Springs, and RPF1 wheels to make it a bit more tolerable.

In all seriousness, I love this damn car. First tank for 46mpg, second tank 49.8, and on my way to averaging 50 this time around. Rides smooth and stable, tons of room for bikes, and the kids to come. I'm actually glad I got this and not another basic manual trans car, because this has enough gadgets in it via the HSI display, to keep me occupied, and makes driving such a breeze. Hybrid system is cool to work, and to force into EV mode, riding silently.

So there we go, two polar opposite cars are now mine. I'm convinced that like the Miata, the Prius is one of those cars that the masses hate, but owners love because they get the point of the car.

Funny part is, some people say "yea my other car is a ______ (insert masculine car here)", now i can only say my other car is a miata (FML) or my other car is a prius (FML x2)

I see no issues with this as a daily. Its a smart idea. I wouldnt build one but I would 100% drive one as a daily.

Oddly enough, this was originally bought as a company car and was driven 33,000/yr, my mechanic bought it with 99,000, sold it to me with 107,000. I think he's going to look for a level 4 or 5 with leather and the solar roof. It came with a really good maintenance history, and he took good care of it as well.

The only comparable options for MPG were diesel VWs and I'll probably die before I buy one of those crayon smelling things. They make good cars while in warranty but I wouldn't want to own one long term (at least with my current income). This car made sense on every aspect of what I wanted in a car. Gotta say the Miata felt EXTRA zippy when I drove it after a few weeks in this thing.

No regrets.

Ooh didn't see the MPGs first time around, I admit that's pretty sweet. My $3k 1997 Civic hatch got 38 mpg average (best of 44mpg on an all highway tank) and I felt like that was pretty tough to beat, especially considering the purchase price. I drove it for 25k miles, spent $0 on repairs, and sold it for $200 more than I bought it for.
I'm sure this is nicer all around, as long as you don't run into any costly repairs.

Fwiw, I'm in the market for one too and they're surprisingly cheap for a 50-100k mile example. Keep us updated on its reliability

I bought this from a family mechanic. He's now looking for a level 4-5 to replace it. He gave me a few bits of info

Regen braking means most people get 100,000mi out of brakes, some as far as 200,000.
No starter motor
No alternator
Electric AC and steering so no accessory belts
10,000mi oil changes and Blackstone has reported that there's little contamination at that point
Trans fluid, coolant, and inverter coolant called for at 100,000 miles, he said not to bother until 200,000.
Timing chain (no belt) and electric water pump
Said he knows dealers in NYC that buy them for cabs and they have 300,000+ with original HV batteries

From a tech standpoint the car is pretty complex with how the CVT and hybrid system work, but maintenance wise it's stupid simple.

In my 97 civic ex I was getting some nice mileage too, averaged 39 with a roof rack on going to Toronto from Philly, but it's nice to get even better mileage out of a much newer, quieter, heavier (and much more stable on highway) car with way more gizmos in it.

The civic was going to need a clutch, balljoints, and possibly tie rods (for the third time) soonand I just didn't want to sink another $1000 into it.
