How dangerous is it to run wheel adapters?

Like what the title states....Is running wheel adapters dangerous? I find that 5x100 really does not have a good selection for wide wheels and I tried searching forums about wheel adapters to see how dangerous they are to drive with. I could not find anything that would answer my question so I came to ask you guys that are more knowledgeable to give me the answer I need. What the wheel adapter would let me accomplish is to go from 5x100 to 5x114.3. This way it will give me a bigger choice in wheels.

a few told me that its bad to have on if you have fwd. i had adapters up front to clear brakes and i didnt like the ride. i like to drive hard at times too but i just didnt feel safe. as for rwd, idk.

Thats a good question because i never really got a solid answer myself. If someone with good knowledge would know, how about this: fwd but adapters in the rear?

I can't speak from experience but I can tell you that you're going to be adding a lot of stress to your studs. They would definitely fail on the wheels that put power to the ground before they would on a non-driven wheel but I wouldn't recommend them anyway. If you do decide to use them make sure they are a high quality metal and you might want to consider replacing your studs to be safe.

this. its just like BOLT ON wheel spacers. key words, bolt.... on.

the only thing that I can think of but dont know for sure that you have to worry about is hub centricty (is that even a word? lol) of the wheels when its all said and done. but they sell rings for that if needed.

H&R + Ichiba make quality wheel adapters...

just make sure you torque to spec, check them after 100 miles, and like DPancoast mentioned are hubcentric.

I'm running ichiba v2 25mm spacers (v2 is bolt on, v1 will required extended lugs) with no problem.

Bolt On wheel adapters are cool, they're essentially the same thing as bolt on wheel spacers, they just have two different patterns.

Just be sure to spend some money and get quality units. Cheap bolt on spacers and adapters like to do weird things, like have the studs strip, spin and break.

Oh, and for what it's worth, it might increase your wheel selection because you have a more common bolt pattern, but you'll have to run a higher offset because of the increased spacing... (minimum of 20mm spacing usually)

Yeah as long as you get an adapter that isn't an ebay special you should be fine(Realistically, even those as long as installed properly shouldn't be an issue). you're going to have a thick piece of metal sandwiched between 2 other thick pieces of metal, secured by 10 beefy bolts.

It's not like we're talking about a 4" spacer that is going to add flex.

Agreed on the bolt on spacers. I have run them for years, autoXed a few times and never had a problem.

We run and sell Project KICS Spacers/Adapters. Run with a good brand name and you should be fine. Your not looking to bring the wheels out for a "hellaflush" look right?

Assuming the answer to that question is yes:

Your not looking for an aggressive setup anyway.

Spend the money and get the right ****.
