Help Rim Issues!?

Hi Tri-State,

I have after market 20" inch rims on my car. Recently it snowed and I want to put my factory OEM rims back on the car. I took my car to a local Pepboys to have the wheels rotated out. They informed me of some bad news. I learned that one of my center caps has a screw in it which keeps the center cap in place, some how that screw has become stripped. They tech also stated the only way to get it out is to destroy the center cap. Does anyone know a way to salvage the center cap or a good local shop that can solve this problem without destroying the center cap.

Thanks, Guys.

you could probably drill it out, or use a bolt extractor.
without closeup pics of it its hard to say.

Thanks for the quick response Troll, I actually went to the Pepboys near Oxford Valley mall. Do you know of anywhere that could do this for me?

Did you call the company who makes the wheels to see how much a new center cap costs? Might be cheaper then paying a shop to try and salvage it. Def need some close up pics though.

Thanks Guys!

My mechanic and I heated up the screw made new tracks on the head, and luckily it unscrewed with out the plastic center cap snapping out or breaking! You guys were a great help though. @ jpalamar I did try to contact the manufacturer of the wheels, only to find out that the company no longer produces that series of rims. So I got lucky. Thanks Again.

your first mistake was going to pep boys to have anything done.

second contact the manufaturer of the wheels and see if you can order a new center cap and screw. should only cost 20 bucks at the most. if thats the case and you can get one and a new screw, drill it out, tap and die new threds. youll be good as new. if you need it fixed i can help you with it, pm me
