it's not always about being faster. there's just something awesome about driving in a light car. generally lighter cars are more fun to drive than a faster heavier car.

Elise is around 45K. I dont remember the Exige price off the top of my head. The comp model is around 80K. Getting in and out is a little hard at first, but there is a trick to it. I almost bought a Kyrpton green elise that is how I know. The final price was 45,XXX. That was with the special paint and the leather/ power windows / power locks option.
Exige was out of the question cause I need a back window

I love those things. Everytime I see one going around an Auto-X course I saw I want one. There a great track car, but you wouldn't find me driving around town in it. It's just to small and stiff for me. (I'm 6'2" so it's gonna be tight)

HAHAH tight is an understatement, you would need to drive with the roof off all the time.

I'd get an Elise over an Evo/STI any day. I understand where you're coming from, those two cars have a much higher hp/$$ ratio and are more mod friendly, but there's something about minimalist motoring that makes the Elise one of my favorite cars ever.
GT28RS-powered Lotus Elise = my most realistic dream car. And probably would get me into looots of trouble. Plus I'm short, the car was pretty much made for me. And yeah, around 42-45k... the Lotus dealer in Hopewell has a slew of them.

That is where I was going to get mine from. I got the Evo instead though. The Elise is an awesome car and all, but it is deffinitly not practical. I needed a reliable car that I could drive in the winter. You NEED an alternate car first

I was going to buy one too but it was too hard to get in and out, the inside was too bland for me as well. Guage cluster was too simple. I'd rather supercharger the s2k.

The Lotus Elise/Exige is really sitting at the pinnacle of the marriage between tech and minimalist sports car. Faster? Who cares? With something like the Elise or Exige, it's not about numbers, benchmarks, or the stoplight drags.
It's about you, car, road, and nothing else. Radio? Screw it. Fancy Gauges? If your ears, hands, and the seat of your pants can't tell it to you, forget it. Roof? Pah! Wheels, Tires, crazy-stiff frame, cutting-edge suspension, and a screaming four banger up your butt. This is all you need for a spiritual driving experience. All that said, I'm 6'0", and I'm planning on getting a few inches chopped off my legs so I can fit in one. |

I think that most modern kit cars sit on that pinnacle. Why all "modern" cars aren't tubular framed these days still confuses me. Almost every race car is tubular framed, but they still refuse to make one from the factory. With the computerized tube benders / cutters they have in the "header" industry, I'd think it would be much cheaper (tooling wise) to do this. All raw chasis materials are the same regardless of car being made, chasis is much stiffer / safer / lighter than "unibody" types. Unibody is just a fancy name for bunch of weak welded sheets of metal. My favorite below http://www.zcars.org.uk/montecarlo/index.htm Factory Five cars are also there http://www.factoryfive.com/table/ffr.../coupekit.html
