I wish we had some meets going on since I just got it inspected, but Ill have it out until the weather gets too bad. Stop by the northeast since I end up hanging out with Tyler up around woodhaven or over at the garage club. Have you been driving your MK3 or is it away for the winter? |

A few updates - car has around 150 miles on it and running great - still not boosting (well not much anyway ) since the Southbend clutch takes 300 miles to break in
Idle has been tuned pretty well for putting break in miles. Sits around 900 RPM. Installed a boost gauge with oil pressure in the stock vent port. It fits nicely into the swivel vent "globe" once it's gutted and you can adjust the angle of the gauge to view. I got sick of seeing the multicolored wires on the topside injectors, VVT-i plug, sensors, etc. so I loomed them and now they're pretty much invisible. Fixed a decent oil leak by tightening down these 1/8 and 3/8 ports on the sandwich plate. Now the oil stays inside my engine, rather than on my garage floor. I have a full oil cooler setup ready to go in for summertime, but oil temps are not a factor now. Picked up an OS Giken Super Lock 1.5 way diff. OS Giken R3C for when I decide to turn up the boost and get a bigger turbo. For now it just takes up space in the closet. Last edited by jdubs; 01-08-2016 at 05:15 PM. |

Today was in the mid 60s and sunny so I decided to take the supra out to stretch it's legs to gauge it's preparation for the arrival of spring.
First stop was the car wash. After dusting her off it was apparent I have some work to do with the paint. Being characteristically lazy this job will most likely be offloaded to a body shop or detailer I can trust. There is a miss at idle, but under boost it's silky smooth. The motor clearly wants more, but this clutch needs a few more miles on it. My lambda targets aren't quite on point so the VE table needs minor tweaks. I've been experimenting with the VVT-i and it makes a significant difference. The car has more torque throughout the powerband. Tomorrow a new catch can will be installed, while I'm away on vacation. Next up - install 14" StopTech kit all around, CCW LM5's and drop it on HKS Hipermax GT IV coils. Last edited by jdubs; 02-29-2016 at 12:02 AM. |

Catch can is installed and finally got the Stoptech kit. It's 14" with 4 piston ST40 calipers. I need wheels so I am ordering a set of CCW LM5s and HKS GT IV hypermax coils in the next month or so.
Unfortunately it puts out a hint of smoke at idle and I will need to replace the valve stem seals. Thinking this can be done with the head still on. New Supertech seals lol. They must have dried out from sitting for 4 years. |

Had the car out today for a good 60 mile drive to test out new cam/crank noise cancellation settings. The cutting out and misfiring from the infinity is gone and it's running much better. Stalling at low load and RPM on occasion, but I think leaning out the VE table will fix it. The engine and clutch have 500 miles on them now. Should be broken in enough for some boost tuning. Coilovers are going on next week and I am ordering the wheels next month.
Here's some shots HKS Hipermax GTIV Coilovers waiting to go on Last edited by jdubs; 05-09-2016 at 01:45 PM. |

I've been driving the car around on 12psi with the Infinity and a few small issues with the tune, but without really unlocking the full potential of the motor. So after a few failed attempts to get local tuners I decided to take it up to Empire performance and have Alpha tune it.
There aren't many decent dyno sheets with a VVT-i head, 6466, cast manifold and 8.5:1 compression and I originally thought I would be lucky to get over 700. I was completely wrong! Motor Carillo h-beam rods, CP pistons with .250 wall pins, bored .02, stock compression. Head HKS 264 cams, VVT-i, Supertech hardware, mild port and polish, leaking valve seals (lol) Turbo 6466 .81 , ported cast manifold, Tial 44mm gate with a 12psi spring. Fuel System Dual walbro 450, FID 2000cc injectors, all Teflon lines. Pump gas After a few boost leak issues and my mac valve shorting out !? He was able to control boost and did an initial run at 13psi, which was over 400whp. After that he was able to turn it up to 19/20psi on 93 and made 580whp, but decided to turn it down to 18psi. E98 This is where it got really fun - He turned the boost up to 33psi This was the final number - He decided to pull out some timing and lower the torque Here's a video |
