Is there no class for smaller displacement dragsters like this? Like 4 cylinder - say under 2.7L or something along those lines. (Sorry if my Qs. is ignorant, I know nothing about dragsters). I think there would be a huge interest no doubt and of course another way to show that you don't need a big engine to go fast.

If anyone has a site or anything that could point me in the right direction about learning about such a class Id appreciate it.

Sick car by the way. Time's are nutty for such a slow roll on. Cant wait to see it go full out.
We're running water through the head only and we have a TINY radiator with virtually no airflow (spaced 1/2" from the motor plate). The temp will creep up with the fan off, the instant you turn the fan on it drops back down. We have the car running really lean at idle just to get it to warm up. If we run it richer we wouldn't be able to build heat. It's also not unheard of for a Methanol car to actually cool down while making a quarter mile pass.

As for a class, yes there is one. There used to be NOPI's Extreme Dragster but NOPI is no longer. The class that is still around is NHRA's I-dragster. Pick up an NHRA rule book and you can read the rules on Competition Eliminator's I-Dragster. It has a turbo size limit and minimum weight dependent on displacement. They also have a class for turbocharged 6 cylinders.

Glad you got to see the car.

Last night we took it out and went an 8.02 at 163 MPH first run off the trailer. The only change since last time was the converter. 32PSI, so there is still PLENTY of boost left and we were insanely rich.

Video is processing now. I'll post a link when it's complete.

Better step up the pace haha. I know of a girl I race with that was racing comp yesterday at Maple Grove in the same class as you and they are having problems with their trans because of it being auto. I think they are switching to a manual trans somehow. Isn't the index for that class in the mid 7s?

Any word on what they ran? Ken (owner of the car) and my dad are pretty close but for whatever reason, Ken hasn't called my dad yet. Ken did say he's giving up on the auto but now I wonder if he'll rethink it considering how close our converter is. On our second visit to the track we already 60'ed 0.1 seconds quicker than his best after close to a season of testing.

The class index is 7.30 so we're looking to run in the 6.80's eventually. It's not going to be easy to get there but we're prepared for it.

I don't know if our little 74mm turbo will put out that kind of boost. The one on the car right now is off of my Eclipse too so I don't want him blowing it up just yet.

Someone told me saturday when I went there that they didn't have a clean run but their one run was like in the 9s struggling I want to say but at about high 160s. I really can't recall what one person told me that was following them. Either way when I saw them run 1st rd they lost, due to the fact that the car wasn't leaving when they wanted it too. I just didn't find out what happened, but I heard it's more the trans problem.

I just heard they went a best of 8.15 at something like 180. That's some crazy MPH. We're running a few less PSI than they are and our car was breaking up through most of high gear but I don't know if it killed 16 MPH. Hopefully we can get the ignition cleared up and see what ours can do.
