Out of all of the cars you've owned, is there 1 in particular that you wish you've never sold? Also, can you pick one that you've owned in the past that was your absolute favorite?

before i go into too much depth, most cars i have owned were excuses as to why i couldn't get an air cooled porsche. i knew the issues that i could run into, and truthfully, i am at the worst case scenario. literally everything i was worried about has come true and im so deep into this car all i can do is laugh at this point.
i wish i never sold my exige. that being said its such a ridiculous DD that i know i would have been sick of it, and i just think about it now without remembering its negatives. horrible ac, buzzy engine, awful transmission. i missed it which is why i bought the elise. but as awesome as that car was, it wasnt my exige. had i never owned the exige, id be writing about my elise being the best car ive owned. being able to see out of the back was great. i modified that car as a "what i should have done" with the exige. both brilliant cars. my exige was just a tad bit more extreme. best all around car... 2005 evo. i think it was making like 450whp when i sold it. talk about a perfect platform. id like to think i could have kept that, but by the time it was making that power it was already getting tiring. i can remember taking the train from boston to philly because i hated that car on the highway for long periods of time. it was my own fault though, not that cars. i wish i still had any of my previous jeeps. i need space for a winter/beater. jeeps are just honest cars. what you see is what you get. i really appreciate that about jeeps. a XJ cherokee is about as simple and to the point as it gets. even the shape of it is so unapologetically simple its a work of art. noble was the worst car ive owned. besides being stupid fast it had nothing going for it. i hated the motor. revved freely right until it hammered its way into the rev limited which was only like 6700. that car needed a much higher red line. wastegate sounds from a mid engine TT were awesome though. truly laugh inducing. ac didnt work, windows barely went down 1/3 of the way. plus the stereo work i had done pissed me off so much, every time i got in the car i was angry looking at it. still the only 8 inch touch screen in a noble in the world. which is kinda neat i guess? rs4. besides sounding awesome. man was it boring. its a car that does everything well, and nothing great. if i really needed a DD it would still be in my garage with the bike. but since i dont drive every day, i can afford to have a car that fights back a bit. of all the cars the audi was the panty dropper. chicks loved it, but didnt understand why it was so loud ( gmg exhaust). i have a good friend with a yellow one. i love watching him try to explain why its special. nobody cares. i certainly didnt. believe it or not the abarth is a total riot. man do i love that car. i know its gotten a lot of press but it doesn't get the respect (sales) it deserves. that is a car you can drive 10/10ths all day long. it just wants to have fun. seating posititon is a bit odd, but once your used to it, its a blast. mine was making like 200whp at 25xx lbs. thats a fun car. that 10hp/lbs threshold is always where i felt things get interesting. my bike is awesome. what a great project that was. i honestly woke up on my birthday one year and decided thats what i was doing. i made the call on it that morning before work, and had sourced a motor and frame by lunch. no bull****. 3 magazines later im thinking about changing a few things up a bit this winter, but i dont see myself ever selling. i love cars, but the bike is a total release. i dont care how slow it is compared to whats available today. its therapy. i need that in my life. which brings me back to the 964. the car i always wanted. the one i knew would be the biggest bitch. im so deep into it and its nowhere near done. but i think thats why i love it. hell, besides this accident, the next project is literally a 10k bill. but i dont care. the car isnt that fast. but damn does it just feel right. you can read all about why people are obessed with air cooled porsches, and its all cliche as hell. i just love the damn thing. its work. but not too much that its not enjoyable. where the s111 cars were horrible in boston traffic, the pcar isnt that bad. you dont have to explain to people who to get in or out. you arent rubbing shoulders with the person next to you. you dont have every person asking you how much it was or what is it ( noble and lotus). its also infinately modifiable. if im ever bored, i can change it. its truly a blank canvas for me to go nuts. tired of a 964? turn it into a 73 rs. wanna go newer? make it a 993. hell call rwb and make it as wide as it is long. 3.6 not enough power? drop in a turbo motor. 3.3 3.4. 3.6 3.8... wanna stay na? 3.8 is just some pistons away. ITBs anyone? yup i can do that. nothing sounds like an air cooled car. nothing handles like a porsche. for better or for worse its just unique. its the perfect mix between rs4 boring, and lotus insanity. so i guess it really is perfect. but damn is she a pricey bitch.

Nicely said. I guess I was lucky with my Porsche, but I sold it to pay off student loans. I think about that car almost every day. How great it sounded with the race catless exhaust. How great it handled. How stable it felt. At a 7200 rpm redline, I revved that car high every day. I'm actually now trying to decide between an Elise, RS4, A Mazda 2 to convert into a B-spec racer, or Cosworth FI powered Mazda MX-5 Club Edition. They all end up being around $30,000. In the future down the line, I want either the Cayman R or a 993. I need to keep up with my friends. They have: 500hp TT Cayman S, FD RX-7, NSX, E46 ME, 350z, 12' STI. I'm just saving up by driving a Suzuki beater until the day comes.

I've been silently watching this thread for years and finally find myself in a position to scratch that Porsche itch I've had for a long time.
Beautiful air cooled, great tastes, terrible luck. I hate to insult the Porsche enthusiasts in this thread but I thought I'd get the most honest response here. I'm thinking about a boxter for a summer/ beach weekend car. $10,000 seems to be able to buy a 50,000 mile car roughly. What's the general opinion on boxters? My hot rods are un DDable, my aircooled bug is a slug. I figure a Porsche will be safer than another bike and the lady will like a vert. Thoughts?

1997-1999=Avoid them. Gasket issues. Least amount of power. 201hp, Slowest. 2000-2001=Better, more power (217hp, 192 ft-lb), able to handle the weight of 18" wheels. Brembo brakes. Boxster S introduced with 245ish hp. 2002-2004=best for the 986 gen Boxsters. More power again for base boxster. 225hp. De-ambered lights give it a more modern look. A smaller glass rear window was added. Less visibility, but more durability compared to the old plastic rear window. PM me for info. I don't want to take over jjm4life's thread.

^^ boxter is a great car. Personally the first gens looks kill it for me, but having driven them they are awesome. The new one should be better than the 991, but obviously that can't happen.

It's been just over a month since the accident and I'm still waiting on parts. Well, just the fender from Germany really.
H4 headlights, 3.8rs splitters, new bumper, new stock rear spoiler are all in. Decided to stay with flag mirrors for now. Might change it up when the car gets a full respray. Seeing that I've been forced to drive a ford escape, I've been on my bike even more than usual. So i have that going for me, which is nice

big day today. 12th anual yuppieracing.net cape run. a rally through the best roads MA and the cape have to offer and a great opportunity to donate to a local food pantry.
40+ cars including 7 lambos, 4 lotus, vipers, amgs, Ms, a bently ect.. our convoy was "visited" by sate and local pd several times, but the only ticket issued on the day was one of the lambo guys on his way to meet up with the group. tomorrow my car gets some fresh brakes. 993tt "big reds" up front with alcon 2pc rotors a brembo gt kit in the rear with all the bits and bobs to go with it. Edit... Trying to post pics. I give up on tst. Not iPad friendly at all.

In regards to being pricey......I wanted a 4S trunk for my 996 I'm buying. Spent $500 on the trunk thinking the reflector would be cheap. Turns out the trunk reflector is $1000. Crazzzzyyyyyy! Glad to see you're make some progress on your 964! Get some pictures posted!

Since I can't post pics easily I don't have any brake porn... But they are on and are awesome. Manual brakes mean a heavier pedal, but I have quickly grown to like the feel. My noble had manual brakes too, but was 150lbs lighter. It also had 150hp more haha

Still can't updated pics.. but I might as well update this. Man where to start.
The car received a total bare metal glass out repsary. I chose to stay with factory black because let's face it, black never goes out of style. Not to mention keeping it clean sucks, so it gives me a reason to hate the car. It's healthy to hate your car, if everything was easy, where would the fun be? In addition to paint, I had a custom hood crest made, rebadged the rear. Had ruf a-pillar aero trim panels (a la the yellowbird) molded in, 993 quarter window glass and seals, new windshield, the rear windshield was replaced with lexan ,and the 3rd brake light deleted, as well as all new rear tail lights. All fenders were pulled and shaved too. Think that sums it up for bodywork. I tend to miss a few details here and there. I think the biggest upgrade since the brakes is a custom geared 6 speed g50/21 out of a 993 and a Guard transmission billet LSD. I couldn't decide on a set of gears where the ratios made sense in the 5 speed. It was either too short of a 5th gear, or too large of a drop off in revs from 4 to 5. Enter a 6 speed. Rarer than hens teeth, I managed to snag one locally for way too much money. It needed work, including an unibtanium (sensing a theme with 911 parts?) housing . We located a batch of them in Colorado that Someone had bought as a lot of parts directly from Porsche. Turns out it didn't fit, as it was a preproduction part that was later changed. A visit to the machine shop fixed that, and my custom 2-5th gears were installed. Holy hell what a difference. It's like the car picked up 50whp. The bill was tough to swallow, but ultimately I was thrilled with the results.
