Problem is that 99.99% of civics are like the ones described here. "rolling with altezza's and apc mufflers" No doubt there are fast ones out there but there are fast "insert any car here" out there too. But as long as he likes it. it's ok |

FACT is, ~70% of civics are grocery getters, ~%25 are ricey grocery getters, and ~5% are fast and i never mentioned my srt-4 in this thread. i was comparing the civics to my neon, which as i said, also is not fast. bottom line.. if the car was fast(or quick even), he'd have something better to brag about than beating a neon.

5k in mods to run 14's? PLEASE tell me where you get your info from. With a $2,500 swap you can run low 14's pretty damn easy. With that swap done, and the other 2500 to spend in more mods, you can hit 13s. Or take the stock D series, build the motor for boost, and all the components, and run low 12's for less than ANY new car. You guys can talk **** all you want and say civics are slow (modded), but please back it up with more than the "grocery getter" response. I'm serious do some research on honda-tech, ef-honda, and club civic, and THEN come back with some solid info that you can't make a civic much faster for the same price as the newer cars coming out, and then maybe you won't look like a jackass. |

if you can come back with a good responce to say im wrong I'd be more than happy to read it, but saying "civics suck and they are slow and can't be fast" only makes you look like a ignorant person. |

As far as them sucking and being slow... They can be fast. But you're "average tuner" is not going to have a fast civic. You're average tuner is gonna be lucky to have a 14 second Civic. It takes quite a bit to make them fast. You want a definition for fast? 11 Seconds and under in the quarter. That's fast. I'm not saying they're the worst cars in the world, in fact, I think they are a very reliable dependable car for a daily driver. What I don't think however, is that they are the best tuner car out there with the most potential. They are not. And before you jump on me, I don't think DSMs are either. Granted, I think DSMs are a much better starting point, and easier /cheaper to make fast. (Seeing as how our stock 4g63t motor can handle more than 5psi of boost stock) If you want to talk about people being ignorant... I suggest learning how to spell "influenceol". HONDA PRIDE!!! lol

as for the dsm/honda rival, yeah dsm's are faster, can be done for far less, but also break on a daily basis. as for a 14 second civic, is NOT hard to do, at all. take a ef, swap in a b16 with lsd and it'll run mid to low 14's all day and can be done for 5k with ease hell it could be done for 3k if you find a cheap shell, and still be able to drive to get your fathers viagra perscription. as for running 11's, refer to my post about epic tunings hatch running 11.81's on a stock internal z6 with 17psi. And I didn't say honda is the only reason for the "tuner" cars of today, but they are one of the bigger reasons that the bigger compants are looking out way in the past few years. im not asking for anyone to say "hell yes civics are mad fast yo". I'm just saying to not count them out because they can be made fast. Buy a srt4, wrx, evo for 20,000ish and run high 13's to low 14s. Buy a civic for 2k and put the 18k into it that you would have spent on your brand new car, now look who is the foolish one. |

I like those Civic Si's. My brother bought a new blue hatch-back one. We call it the pregnant smurf. Just thought i'd ease the tension on this thread. hahaha.

Civics are between a rock and a hard place when it comes to being fast. It takes a lot of money, knowledge, and effort to be truely "fast". And the thing I can't stand is how a powerful civic suddenly becomes a nightmare to drive on the street. Something about needing to hit 6,000rpm to spool any decent sized turbo just takes the drivability right out of a car.
Torque 4 Lyfe.

And putting 18k into another 20,000 econo box makes sense? Too make you happy, go buy a rsx for 20k and put 18k into that.
And i've yet to seen any relevent information backing up that fact that its so hard to make a honda fast. Home about homemadeturbo.com? Those guys have been building turbo kits for years in their backyards and have produced some really quick hondas for the amount of money they put in. For another example on ef-honda.com, TallKyle and Redstandzchatch both have boosted d16a6's, putting down 250 and 300 whp dyno tuned. And are both running mid to low 12's on street tires, and they still daily drive them. Both have been done for right around the 5,000 dollar mark. I think I have posted some very good information backing up my side of this discussion, so maybe its your guys turn. |
