Another crappy crapalier.

I picked this up in the fall of 2007. I was honestly looking at mk4 GTIs and just saw it on the lot at the dealership that i was working at. I have always had a soft spot for cavaliers. It was 100% bone stock and the bottom of the barrel base model(the lightest model). I cant find my uploaded pic of it stock, but im sure you all know what a stock POS 2003 crapalier looks like.

Anyhow, the 1st order of business was to ditch the stock intake, wheels, and trunk/taillights. I install a K&N short ram, cheap set of 16" wheels, front and rear strut tower bars, and had a 02 LS Sport trunk and spoiler painted to match. After that i didnt have a direction to go with the car. That lead me to jumping in a group purchase for a Easystreet airride kit.

The 35mm offset on the cheapie 16"s made it so they wouldnt fit the car without a roll and pull, so off they came.

That winter i came across a very good deal on a supercharger kit off a 2006 Cobalt that was at RD Fabs getting a GT3071R fitted onto it.

But i was still on the stock 1&7/8 exhaust and insanely restrictive manifold all summer. So the next fall i contacted my buddy at RD Fabs and told him that i finally ready to move forward with alittle "secret" project that we had been talking about for over a year.

2" dia. Primaries, 12" long runners, 3" collector, and 100% 304 Stainless steel. We wrapped it because the shop is over 2 hours away from me and i couldnt afford the added downtime. They also hung my custom 304SS 3" exhaust. I had found a power goal.

So it was now bagged and boosted. As soon as my love affair for boost and whine started, the affair with the bags ended. But due to financial issues i was forced to live with the bags for another year. Then something magical happened, i went autocrossing. Shortly after this happened:

Tein SSp's FTW!!!!! I also tossed in a Addco 1" front sway bar and a Progress 22mm rear sway bar.

I got tired of the small Mustang Cobra H/E that i got with the "kit" and decided to upgrade to the ZZP S3 H/E. These pics were taken while i was still on the bags. My Tein stance is alittle higher.

Just to show the trunk swap with Qwibby tinted tails.

That brings me all the way up to this year. I had/still am collecting parts, but i did install a few power mods this spring. I swapped the 3.1" supercharger pulley for a 2.9"(10psi to 13psi), 36# injectors to 63# injectors, restrictive stock 56mm TB to a stock 75mm LS1 TB(matches the inlet on the blower, and had it all tuned via HP Tuners.

Im fortunate enough that i carpool to work so despite that this is currently my only car it is the nice weather play/race car. So far this year i have ran all of the NEPA SCCA Solo2 events and i plan on running as many as i can.

Back to stories about parts. I am really hating how the car looks. The paint is shot, the wheels and brakes are too small(height & width), and it is underpowered. This winter im hoping to overhaul it. New paint, wheels, brakes, engine, supercharger, etc... The plan is to "clone" one of GM concept cars but do it better than GM ever did. I have the rare production version of the body kit off the 2003 Turbosport concept car and i have the actual spoiler off the gunmetal 2002 Turbosport coupe concept car.

For wheels and brakes i have a set of 5Zigen ProRacer GN+ in 18x7.5 35mm offset and Baer PBR 13" disc brakes(i still need to order the 12" rear kit). I plan on wrapping them in Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110(225/40R18) and im looking at a set of Enkei PF01s(17x8 35mm offset) with a 245/40R17 slick or R-comp for autocross/track use.

For power mods. My ATM goal is ~350whp on a LE61(like Qwibby) but with a Harrop HTV1320 instead of a turbo.

My current projects for it are pulling/cleaning up a spare rear trailing arm and front subframe so i can build the suspension/brakes off the car and swap them in as a unit. I dont have any plans of changing anything major over the summer. I just want to drive it and enjoy it.

Well the plans have changed. I picked up a complete LS Sport "body kit" for it and will be rocking that with the toyo fenders and a few C/F items for a while. Im not in a good position to care for a show car. I'm also attempting to juggle the exterior and suspension build with trying to pick up a "new" DD and bills. Good news is that i applied for a new job today that pays $3/hour more than my current job and have the possibility for a $4/hour raise after a year.

One C/F goodie is a ViS trunk. JSP and CF Tec both used to make trunks but i havent been able to find any.

My old trunk and tails were sold to another J-body.org member from OC, NY.

Then i did order 2 Hankooks.

And one last pic of both front bumpers that i have for the car. Xtreme tuner(orange) and LS Sport(gray).

Wow, I was most certainly not expecting this when I read the thread title.

VERY cool car man. I bet you make a lot of people mad when a cavalier whoops on them. Exhaust looks great from the rear I must say.

I'm actually impressed, when i saw you wanted a gti and then randomly bought a cavalier i was like "o god why????"

Glad you went with the s/c route and chose a lot of nice parts in the process. Props on building something different then the next guy.

Yes, i was down there a few times over the summer.

The week before the Sloppy Mechanics dyno day some buddies and i tossed our cars on their dyno. I ended up only making 230whp. 10whp shy of my goal. Next spring will an upgraded fuel pump, meth injection, and a Speed Density ECU(current is Alpha-N) i hope to be near 250whp.

Today i "offically" tucked it away for the winter a.k.a. i started tearing it apart.

Here are the plans for the winter:

Overhaul Exterior
• Install LSS Rear bumper
• Install LSS Front bumper
• Install LSS Side skirts
• Install Toyo fenders
• Install Toyo mirrors
• Install New headlights/fog lights
• Install Carbon fiber OEM hood, LSS spoiler, B pillars
• Install 5Zigen wheels w/ Hankook tires

Install Power Adders
• Racetronix W-body fuel pump
• Water/Meth injection
• Finish air intake
• LD9/LN2 ECU/harness swap

Front Suspension
• Sandblast/powdercoat subframe
• Clean/install aluminum control arms & poly bushings
• Install Baer brakes/swap wheel studs
• Transfer Addco sway bar
• Install TTR “k” brace

Rear Suspension
• Sandblast/powdercoat trailing arm
• Install Derlin bushings
• Install Baer brakes/camber shims/swap wheel studs
• Transfer Progress sway bar

Misc.
• Relocate battery to under right headlight
• Fabricate H/E overflow tank
• New exhaust

If i get all of this done for next spring then i'll building the spare engine i have, toss on the TVS, and have fun. I would like to get close to 400whp with just the TVS and 500whp+ with the help of nitrous(for the dyno days).

Well the exterior is starting to come together. The bumpers, sideskirts, and fenders have been home for a while. The rear bumper and fenders are on. The front is just zip-tied on(it is going to be one of the last parts to install).

A set of B-pillars, toyota cavalier mirror sails, and a 02 LSS spoiler(same as the black one i had on the car) are at my buddy's who wrapping them in carbon fiber. My ViS trunk and ViS EVO hood are also there waiting for a layer of clear coat and alittle modifications(to the hood).

The NACA ducts are useless for me(they direct air to the strut towers), plus i dislike them. We are also doing a subtle evil eye to the hood too. The hood will be partially painted.

The poly bushings are installed into the "new" control arms and the front subframe should be coming back from powder coat this week. So as soon as i get that back i can get to tearing into the front suspension and dropping the rear trailing arm off at the powder coaters. Tires should be tossed on the wheels in the next week or two.

I did finally get my hands on a 00-02 LD9 wiring harness/ECU for my Speed Density swap. The more i think about the more i really really do not want to run a Harrop HTV1320 on an Alpha-N ECU. Especially since i have these babies for some future TVS fun.

I have been giving alot of thought to it and am 99.9% sure that i'll have APR custom build me a splitter for the front.

Not a huge fan of the hood, but every thing else looks really great. Good clean job on the s/c setup and that header looks sick.
