Tires2theSky's 93 Supra Build-Up
I bought the car about 3 months ago from Norfolk Va from a guy in the navy. It is a 93 Supra TT auto, and it had the basic BPU mods. Well needless to say the owner was not the most mechanically knowledgable person and rigged alot of stuff up. The head gasket was bad so i talked him down a considerable amount. Most of the engine bay was horribly dirty and oxidized/rusted. The car was parked near the water often. Here is a shot of the engine bay, and notice there was a plumbing valve in there... Here is a shot of the car the day I got it it was pretty bad weather so no the best pic. I really disliked how bad the front wheels tucked. |

So the car then went under the knife. The seats were a horrible white with black leather, So we stripped the interior and had the seats reupholstered black leather with black suede and red stitching. I should be picking them up on Mon so i will get completed interior shots soon. We also steam cleaned all the carpet inside.
So once the interior was stripped it was time to start taking the motor apart. Here are some shots of the motor coming apart. Down to the block to replace the head gasket |

Since we had it all apart we decided to replace everything, belts, waterpump, alternator ect so that way we wouldn't have to go back in and do it any time soon. Here is a shot of the cylinder, the block is in great shape and u can see the bad headgasket surrounding it.
Since the head was off i sent it out to be refinished. Here are the results |

I wish it was that easy to do the headgasket in my car haha... looks effortless!
I'd also like to know what exactly that plumbing valve did... Not too bad of a template though man. Can't wait to see more. I love Supras.

Yes i will be changing it as soon as i leave to go back to afghanistan. The only reason its not started right now is i wanted to drive it when i came home for R&R and there was no way the swap and everything else would have gotten done |

Here are some pics of the motor going back together. Everything was sent out to get powdercoated so i am getting pieces here and there from our local place.
Here's one with the turbo mounted, water pump on and the timing belt on The washer and bolt in the picture on the cam gears have been since painted black it was a slight oversight on our part. |

alot of stuff still needs to be cleaned and degreased in the engine bay, but didn't want to stir up too much dirt and grime while everything was exposed.

Looks good, but what was the purpose of that valve?

To be totally honest i have no idea. We really didn't even notice it until we got the car home. Since the Twin Turbo assembaly is a crazy mess cuz of all the stuff to synchronize them, we were thinking it was a valve off the wastegate to make it louder. Maybe TROLL or someone with more supra knowledge could answer better. |

It might have been a homemade boost controller?!?

That plumbing valve is in the line where the stock BOV would be located; it would normally connect back to where that that nipple is capped off with that hose clamp just to the right of it. The stock BOV vents back into the intake since the stock setup uses a MAF and once you meter the inlet airflow, you don't want to just vent some air out to atmosphere or it'll screw up your a/f control. I see he also had an HKS SSQV BOV on there, so he probably just capped off the stock connection with the first thing that popped into his demented mind...that plumbing valve. Go figure...it takes all kinds.

I will be the first person to agree with you on that one. I have new wheels and they are at the powdercoater as well getting done in satin black and gettin them red pinstriped, i am very partial to the time attack look. I will either sell the Volks or use them as track wheels. The new ones are Tenzo GF7's, and yes i know they are kinda heavy, 27.5 front and 29 rear, they are 19s. But they are one of the few non custom wheels that run a 10 inch rear and more aggressive offsets. I am just waiting for some more money to free up for a set of Work Varianza T1s. I was going to order them but was told it would be 8-10 weeks(6 weeks from Japan, 1 week to paint and 2 weeks to ship) so i decided to wait, but these wheels look similar.
don't mind the cheetah pillow lol my brother took these in his room |
