Got My Waterproof RAM GPS Mounting System Wired Up & Installed on my Honda Hawk GT
YES, it's a BIG case. I think it should be okay, but with about 8 feet of snow still left outside my basement door, I can't find out anytime soon. I did have some customization (cutting) required on the rear of the mount to run the cable through. There is a hole in the back, which I punched out, but no way to really get the cable into it while it's mounted - hence the cutting. I will seal that up with a little silicone. This is the non-waterproof DD version I will have on most the time - I ordered it last night:

that is pretty damn big! but still cool.
have u gone riding with it on yet, and do you think it will effect your turning at all? also looks like you may have been able to squeeze it behind your windshield in front of you speedometer, but it might have been too tight? |

I agree, it is HUGE! I got this mainly for when I'm in FL on the bike for 2 weeks since they have those t-storms most every day. Unable to test it yet since there is approx 8 feet of snow outside my garage door (damn plow!). I guess I could get out there today at lunch to do some shoveling - but I figure mother nature will take care of that tomorrow - and the rest of this week (RAIN!). I have a regular mount, the size of the GPS itself, which'll be run most days. It mounts on the same arm, same location. Regarding location. I wanted something that I could look at while riding without being too distracted by looking down. I have a tank bag that has a GPS mount built into it - that look down at the tank bag has almost caused 3 accidents thus far when traffic stopped suddenly. So, this is my avoidance tactic.

does the touch screen work thru the case? (not that it would be safe to be adding addresses on the fly)

It locks ;-)
Works great. First thing I tested. Like I said, when I know it's a good chance of rain, but I wanna ride anyway, this guy will be on the bike. If it's a 30% chance or less of rain, I'll be using that 2nd photo I posted.

I concur. It goes in my pocket wherever I go ;-) Same with when I am in my Wrangler. Thieves are not cool...

You car guys are funny...A gps on a bike is nothing new...BMW guys have done it for Years and years. I'd totally get a setup like that If i rode in places i had no idea where the **** i was at.
Its really no more dangerous than having a GPS in your car...And you can go even one step further and hook up the voice navigation to a speaker in your helmet. Setup looks nice...Those RAM mounts are tits...Def worth the investment.

My Garmin transmits on FM stations. I have a head set that receives AM/FM radio. So theoretically, I never need to look down unless I am changing the address or something. Most bikers seem to do the couple hour thing - cruise around their local area, hang out, etc. I put a good 100-200 miles on the bike a day in summer, and 250-400 miles a weekend on a good weekend! I put 7500 miles on my bike last riding season alone. It'll be nice to ride anywhere I want, and not have to worry about finding my way home - *click* "Go Home" and I am set!
RAM definitely does rock. I want a laptop mount next from them for my truck.

Dude, my favorite ride from West Chester is as follows (There are thousands of variations on this route, but here is a rough route):
-Meet at Wawa - Grab drinks & Gas up -202N to PA Turnpike East - get all that high speed stuff outta your system first - I don't really hit high speeds anyway. -Exit at Willow Grove -611N -Right onto Mill Road -Right onto Byberry Road -Left onto 2nd Street Pike (232) -Take that to New Hope & chill (food, drinks, look at bikes, gas) -Take River Road north until it intersects with 611 -Right onto 611N -Stop in Easton at that Exxon there for a fuel and drink break -Hop back on 611N and follow it for as long as you see fit This rides along the Delaware River from New Hope all the way up through Easton, and up near Camelback (Tannersville) and continues all the way up to the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, etc. It's an absolutely gorgeous ride, tons of bikes, great roads, and many stops along the way to drain the lizard, pick up some food/drink, gas up the bikes, and stop for scenic photos. We will sometimes head up to Camelback Mountain and chill at the parking lot on top for a bit. At that point, if it's getting late, we'll usually head home. if it's still early, we'll continue on the ride. Anyone is welcome to join me on these rides. Just gotta know, I am not one of those crazy 150 MPH bikers. I enjoy cruising, with some fun twisties here and there.
