got a ticket....oyy

I drove to Killington to board, my buddy that drove got injured so I drove his car back, unfortunately he had to stay at a random hospital in NY due to his injury. I was ticketed on the way home, I was semi-unfamiliar with the area and was not sure if I was heading the correct direction. I was ticketed for going 78 in 55. The cop also gave me a warning for a tail light that was out, even thought I was driving my friends car, not mine. Its going to be plenty of points. The cop said he was giving me a break because he had to go over 80 to catch up to me which doesnt make sense, but that he knows I was going more than 80 and he was cutting me break. I think his story sounds a little faulty, but I dunno, I need a second opinion...

The ticket is $200 and 4 points, thats a lot of points...would it be worth a shot going to the judge and explain how I was having a horrible day, I had to take my friend to the ER, I also was not sure where I was and the last I had remembered the speed limit was 65, not 55. So basically I was having a bad day and I was paying more attention to getting home than the speed limit. Would this have any chance of getting at least reduced in points..I don' relly have a problem paying for the ticket...

I can't tell you what the outcome of a court hearing will be, but pleading guilty has no possibility of a lesser sentence. If it's a first offense, you certainly stand a chance of having the ticket lowered. However, a judge is not interested in hearing a story.

Things that will help you in court:
-Your attitude and appearance
-Your driving record (first offense?)
-Showing responsibility
-A lawyer, if you choose to use one

Things that won't help:
-Excuses
-Arguing technicalities
-Lying
