Can I insure my car before registering it?

I bought my car in 2011 from a dealer and since July 2012, I put it on jack stands to work on my car and I finally got it running again. It's been unregistered and uninsured since that summer. I want to be able to insure and register it at the same time, but financially I cannot do it at the same time. So I figured that I could insure it first to prevent an insurance lapse that PennDOT tried to accuse me of back when I moved from progressive to nationwide in the same day.

I will contact my nearest insurance agent and ask if it is possible on Monday. I just figured to ask the law first.

Yeah to be honest that's a better question for an insurance agent. From a law perspective, it's technically illegal to drive any car on a public roadway if it's uninsured and/or unregistered.

In Delaware an unregistered vehicle is simply a ticket. Whereas an uninsured vehicle will get ticketed AND towed...

Thanks for your response. I'm gonna play it safe and insure it then register it on the same day. (even though it would take a week longer to do so) As of right now it's collecting dust LOL.
