Scanner for 35mm film (Attn: Photographers)

I don't have enough money to go buy a new digital camera, but I have a decent Cannon EOS SLR that uses film. I am not impressed with the resolution I would get having it digitally transferred at the one hour photo labs. I am just looking for a way to get higher resolution from my negatives into a digital format.I know the chemical process is still amongst the highest resolution of the new digitals, but whats my best bet for digitizing them after my negatives have been developed?!? Are there any film scanners I can buy?

There are film scanners that you can buy, we used to use them in school. I don't know how much they are though.
