I don't know about you, but I would rather have a car not pass emissions than not pass safety inspection. Do you know how many people don't give two ****s about maintaining their cars? Going through safety inspection at least has someone check the ball joints (you know, one of the most critical parts of a suspension), tires, brakes, etc. Without that being checked, you're putting your life in danger as well because that person will think he/she is a hot shot, who could have poor tires, poor brakes, and shot suspension, will try to prove themselves on the road and something will let go. You do the math.

Wow. This is absolutely brilliant.
The Politicians in charge of this state are so dumb that first they cut education funding and now they're essentially saying, "We don't give a **** what you drive as long as it's not killing the planet". Now all these people driving duct taped together pieces of crap with headlights missing and trash bag windows are going to stay on the road. Safety inspection is the most important part of inspection, IMO. I really could give two ***** about emissions, considering that the majority of vehicles on the road still retain their original factory emissions equipment that works perfectly. IMO, they shouldn't start inspecting emissions until a car's like 10 years old anyway, anything before that and they're just wasting time. If they really want to save money then maybe they should stop wasting it elsewhere.

wow really?
i would be pumped except for the fact that i'm now going to get rear-ended because some dumbass has no brakes i think if anything this should be the other way around, i mean like 98% of the general public are not going to gut the cat on their mini van, emissions is usually not a problem (unless a 02 sensor or cat goes bad). Safety inspection - well thats exactly what it says, SAFETY. i think its safe to say the roads are going to be a bit more dangerous in NJ |

According to their research, it was something like only 2% of cars that go through inspection a year don't pass, and of those 2%, the issues reported were not believed to be real safety violations. In other words, the cars that didn't pass inspection didn't pass it because of other reasons, not brakes, balljoints, tires, etc. nothing major.
Just saying this is what I read. I gotta side with it to some degree, and NJ is something like the 12th state to cut the safety inspection. Wish I could find the article again.

They need inspections for peolpe who aren't car savy. I guarentee insurance rates go up in NJ with the extra accidents that will be caused from people driving on bald tires, bad brakes, ect. Thank god I don't live in there.

The only reason the vehicles pass is b/c the owners know inspection is coming up, and they need to get stuff fixed in order to pass.
Bully to NJ for saving some tax dollars, but there may be some consequences in the end.

Thats NJ for you. Julie used to work part time for KGB(the company you text questions to and they answer). Someone sent a question asking what states if any it is OK to have sex with animals. Guess who popped up. NJ! Even though it is technically not legal, it is still frowned upon. I guess thats a start lol

idk how they do it in jersey, but in PA we have to report what they fixed/needed to fix for inspection, but i could easily imagine people being too lazy to report that kind of stuff leading to a statistic like that. who knows!? |

This is too funny. I hate inspections, but they are a good thing. Specially here in PA, so many people live by the moto, "It can wait till it needs to be inspected." Yea with a whole lot of luck.

I'm happy. Now I don't have to cover up my airbag hole OR defeat the airbag light if I don't want to.
