What kind of cars "breed" the best mechanics?

I was thinking about this yesterday as i was fixing josh's car again haha i was just curious as to what other people think. so here's how itll work:

1. tell us what kind of car ( make or model or even type )
2. tell us why
3. give an example if you feel it is nessecary to prove your point
4. pics dont hurt either

and try to keep it friendly

my choice:

1. DSMs
2. it seems like every weird thing that could go wrong on a DSM, does hahaha and the drivers and their friends * cough cough * always have a wrench in their hands
3. I was just fixing josh's car again yesterday

I would say 300zx, or something with an extremely crowded engine bay. DSMs arent hard to work on, they just require a bit more work. I think cars that are very challenging to get to bolts/nuts/clips should win this category.

I agree with you guys but I'd have to say anything German.

1) German
2) Because they require so much training to begin with to even work on them. Plus it just kinda seems like if you can work on a German car, everything else is easier because everything else is simpler lol

Clearly, you have never run into a German electrical problem.

There is no one car in particular that makes anyone a good mechanic. Experience makes a good mechanic. Simple as that.

Hands down DSM.
No other car breaks down as often as those things do. Before you know it, you'll be on your 5th engine rebuild and have your trans disassembled in the garage.

240s are a close second on the list.

can i ask an aside from this topic?? i will anyway....

I know DSM are notorious for breaking....is this modified/built only? Or do stock DSM's crap out just as often? Simply speaking, are they just POS?

I am a mechanical tard..i do my own oil changes thats about it. So I really don't have enough experience to comment on the topic at hand.

Really?? My roommate and I did his intake in just under 45m. Remove the batt, remove stock parts, install CAI, replace batt, done.

DSM's were known to break A LOT. Crankwalking issues are one of them (not sure which models off hand).

VWs also get a bad rep. for being unrealiable, and sometimes, its proven true. Friend of mine has been out of his car for now 7 weeks, due to a warped head.

Well 4 hours over 2 days technically...i was sick and throwing up both days (dont ask why i was working on my car...lol), was doing it by myself, and day one i ran out of light (since it was getting dark at 4pm in december and i was doing it in my driveway) using basic hand tools, and that included cleaning everything up also...if i had to do it again id say i could get it done in under 2 hours. My point was just that it took me way longer than i thought it would...

Some cranks in the mostly earlier 2G Eclipses (1995-1999 = 2G) were not machined right from the factory and I'm not a mechanic (very very far from it) but what I get out of it is they move around when they arent supposed to causing them to "walk".

I'm gonna second the 300zx.

Car: 300zx

Reason: Very cramped engine bay. Nothing is really easy to remove or replace. Everything in the car is so tightly wound that breaking clips is almost a way of life when your new to it.

I'm no master mechanic but my Z has helped me learn so much about auto mechanics. I went from hardly being able to do an oil change or change a tire to tackling performance installs and starting to learn wiring.

Kinda half debating trying to learn to tune but I'm a bit scared of that. Really don't want to blow my motor up haha.

I would say 3kGT VR4's are right there too. Very cramped engine bays and half retarded pipe routing.
