Photo Review: DAKINE Sequence Backpack
Exterior: Built in rain cover over exterior: Portion that rests against your back: Opened up: Backpack portion on left | Camera bag portion on right: My old Case Logic Backpack | DAKINE pack | DAKINE Camera bag portion: Camera phone photos showing how I'll be using it... (SB600, 70-300VR, D2x with 18-70mm, D70s with 50mm 1.8, Nikon Coolpix L5 lol): I'll try fitting my laptop in the laptop portion tonight after my photoshoot if I have a free moment. I have a 15.4" Dell laptop that loves to travel. I hope it fits, but have heard it's really designed for 15" and smaller laptops We'll see. There are also some other random pockets I am using for storage of cables, batteries, etc. I did wear it. I love the feel. It's definitely got plenty of straps, which is exactly what I was looking for. For the few here who have tried on an SCBA Firefighting device, it's a feel VERY similar to that. The Draeger SCBA packs that we used feel nearly identical. It has great hip support that somewhat pivots with your hips, I love it. I'll let everyone know how it holds up after my first hike with it! So far, I HIGHLY recommend this bag! Edit (1/8/09): I am 6'4" and this is a shot of me wearing it: I use it like an fire company SCBA. Put it on, shoulders first. Shoulder straps somewhat tight. Tighten hip/waist strap real good til it moves on your hips. Make sure it's comfortable. Then loosen the shoulder straps til most the weight is supported on your hips. Good to go. I've probably hiked about 6 hours with this on and it's been great. Anything from climbing with all 4's, to flat surfaces. It's extremely comfortable and really works how I want it to work! And a slight redesign (D70s with the 70-300, D2x with the 28-105, the 50 and the 18-70 in there, as well as my Coolpix L5, SB600, and some other misc parts, manual, accessories, etc.:

Definitely do it. I was considering that Burton one too, but liked this one due to personal opinions from buddies who've used both Burton/DAKINE products. Both look great though.

That's a nice pack - I don't do any biking but I do hike a bit and I'm using a Lowepro Slingshot, which I basically have at max capacity with a 5D, 17-40, 100 prime & 24-105.

yea, like i said in the other thread...the reason i went with the burton was because it seemed to have a bit more non-camera storage. since i use it as my carry-on when i go places, the extra space was pretty important to me

At first I was like "what $111.00" that's a lot of loot for a backpack. But after seeing the photos it looks like a good quality bag, (still more than I can afford) and worth it. I'm not that familiar with Dakine products. I do a lot of photography on my bike and was looking for something that's fast, and east to get to, maybe a front loading system?

Looks like a nice bag, I like when they don't look like they have camera gear inside. Carrying a big, conspicuous camera bag around screams 'steal me.'
That said, I've never seen anyone organize their gear in a bag like that!

I need to alter the position of the D2x. I want the bottom of the D2x to come in contact with the bottom of the bag. Not a huge deal, but I feel slightly safer that way ;-)
Quote:
Have it on the back when you're riding maybe, then just spin it around to gain access to your gear.

I like to have the majority of my gear in the bag. I just threw it all together real quick for the shots. I prob won't be leaving it like that, but we'll see. It all needs to fit ;-)

can you take some pics of it on? after reading some reviews on the burton and how it fits it deterred me away from that pack.
this one looks really good

that's definitely a great bag! i used a friend's for a day before i finally decided on my Burton AK Zoom.
i liked both a lot actually. the Dakine bag is uhh.. well it's Dakine, so it's an amazing bag. lol. the thing that sold me on the AK bag was that it's a bit bigger inside as far as actual usable space. the burton bag was a little more comfortable when weighted down, and i absolutely had to be able to easily strap on my manfrotto and both of my skis to do some hiking. the burton bag is more accommodating there. i LOVE the way it opens up from the rear instead of the front. when you do a lot of ski/snowboard photography like i used to, it's a pain in the ass when you set your bag down to open it up and the straps and back padding get all snowy and wet. that's the problem with the Dakine bag, you have to set it down on its straps. the dakine bag is more of a skate/street/normal hiking bag which is awesome if you do that kind of thing more often. i love the way yours looks in brown. i think if i had to buy another bag again, i'd buy the Dakine like yours and save the 3 months and $175 i spent trying to find the Burton AK bag in black haha. EDIT: i guess i didn't realize they have a new style of the Zoom... which looks dumb btw. lol. i had the original 29L bag - Burton AK Zoom - Black

I get some more photos if I get a free moment. I am 6'4". This bag has crazy capability to be places on someone small to someone a foot taller than me, while still being comfortable!
This is the 2008 model of the Dakine bag.. the 2000, not the 1800. The Dakine bag opens from the "front", where your back comes in contact. Therefor, the "wet" part you lay in the snow or water or whatever, is not going to be on your back ;-) Just a FWIW.

oh wow.. haha. i just looked closer at your pics. it looked as if the side that opened was the front, not the shoulder strap side becasue of the way you have the straps flipped around. oops. lol. well that makes that bag 100x cooler now! lol.

Congrats on the new bag. It looks pretty solid.
For those of you interested in the current Burton: http://www.tristatetuners.com/forum/...6&postcount=27 It is a little bigger and bulkier than Hibachi's Dakine, but it also holds a lot more, both gear and miscellaneous.
