its a stick and it looks clean there is alot of potential for those cars... straight line potential that is . Personally i think it would be a cool toy but not for everyday and for one fo those 82k is not so bad. PLus there are tons of parts for those cars and you could spray them to high heaven there are even cheapish turbo kits out for them now.

The question is can he afford the gas that a 5.0 will bring as a daily driver.

Would have to agree that its no DD, my buddy just sold his '92 S/C 5.0 last month, before he put the S/C on it, it was still damned quick

These cars are pretty popular so it'll be really easy to find parts for it.
I dont think as many people will try to break in or steal it like a honda.

I'd get it if I was in your position and had 5k for a car

I don't know if you could handle the power but it seems like a good deal. They get pretty decent mileage if you don't beat on them. Not going to be as good as your Si but.

I have an '02 GT that isn't very pleasant on gas and its an auto. I only get 230 on a tank when I don't beat on it. Don't expect much from it even if it's a different engine than the 4.6. I'm almost considering getting rid of it because of the gas prices.

I got 220-250 miles to a tank, averaging 18-20 mpg in "normal" driving, which is pretty spirited.

And that's in my v6.

We're car enthusiats. What do we want to talk about, a car that has almost limitless potential for power (5.0 = uberaftermarket), or complain about fuel economy? I'm proud to fill up with 93 for my turbostang, price be damned.

This sounds corny as hell, but honestly, having driven lots of cars...I liked my old cars, they were nice, some even drove nicer, and more pleasantly than the mustang, and I liked certain things about them more, but the stang has some...something to it that just makes it different than any other car. The shifter is probably heavy compared to your car, but it feels solid and good when you slam it into second and keep the tires smoking. The seats aren't going to be as comfortable as in your SI, but hell, they keep you from ending up with a mouthfull of trunk, and isn't that their purpose? The motor has twice as many cylinders, and more than twice the displacement which is heavy as hell...but...you can climb a hill at 1000rpm in fifth gear without downshifting.

The point I'm trying to make is that it'll be totally different. Ask him if you can drive it. You'll find it different in almost EVERY way from your SI.

The 5.0 is like a block of clay, you can turn it into anything you want. Want a high-HP dragster? It's your platform. Want a dependable quick Daily Driver? it's your platform. Want to mod the suspension and autocross? Well, it might not be the ideal platform, but it's helluva lot of fun and doable!!

I've done all the above with my car. Albeit it's a bit newer, and a sixer (silly v8's!), but it's still a car like none other I've ever driven or ridden in. My old '87 Tempo was a good cruiser. My Probe GT would out-handle most any other car I ever decided to put it up against. My dad's dunebuggy looked better than anything else and gets more attention. But the mustang is a mustang. Hate on me for saying it, but it has its own identity and charisma, and once owning one, you'll understand what people talk about, and realize why it's the last pony car.

[/patronizing speech]

Wow, Ford motors must not be as well built as my little economy car 4 cylinder crapper then. I'm spraying 100 shot for about 2 years now on bone stock motor. I would figure a V8 with 302 cubic inches of displacement should be able to handle 200 hp of juice on a cast bottom, and 300 with forged. I know guys running the same motor I do but with forged con rods and pistons (still the stock crank though) running 150 shot with no probs.
