blow off valve question

I have a 2004 wrx with stage 2 mods.

Ive always loved the sound of a blow off valve. But everywhere i read blowoff valves are bad for subaru's is this completley true? I know i might sound like a ricer but i just love the sound. by changing to an after market bov why is it not as good as the stock one? or how much power if any am i loosing?

and if i were to get a bov what would be the best one?

thanks nick

from what i've heard from other subaru owners, running an atmospheric bov WITHOUT a tune makes the car run like crap which also includes having an intake without a tune on a wrx.

you can run a 50/50 bov, 50% atmospheric, 50% recirculating or run an upgraded recirculated bov.

Running 100% atmosphere isnt nearly as much of a big deal as the nasioc nerds make it out to be. Yes you may have a little stumble when you let off the gas and you might loose 1-2mpg but thats it. Its not gonna blow up your engine or or loose you any hp. It just makes driving the car a little more difficult.

I would think the best one to run is the HKS since its adjusts itself. You could also look at 50/50's.

I've been running a Tial 50mm since like forever, mostly because I was planning on running 21ish lbs of boost. Its quieter than most and has yet to get annoying. The worst part was getting it adjusted properly.

when you say tune do u mean like i have to get tuned once i instal it or it would work already with a stage 2 tune?

is it a cobb accessport tune? i dont know if cobb has pro tunes for upgraded bov's or intakes and such.

i mean an actual open source tune versus an off the shelf tune.

well currently im stage 2 mods without a tune. (it was an open source tune from RAY) im looking to get open source or a shelf tuned as soon as posible if any one could also help me out with that.

get the atmospheric bov if thats what you want, its better for higher boost from what i am aware.

it all depends on what you want.

but stage 2 mods, i would go with either a 50/50 or recirculating bov. stock is fine too but depends on how much boost you want to run.

Precision tuning does some good stuff from what I have heard.

Do you have a cold air intake? That lets you hear the stock BPV pretty well and will let you avoid the stumbling rich issues that VTA gives.

once i am tuned im guessing i will be somewhere between 14-17 psi

i will most likely get a 50/50 or recerculating.

sti has a different turbo, different psi rating, different sound.

stock bov is perfectly fine and you WILL be able to hear it.

i've been in many TUNED stage 2 wrx's and you can hear the bov fine, it won't be as loud as paul walkers annoying supra bov but it'll sound nice.

turbo xs/worx/tial bov's are real nice.

I think the STi one is different than the WRX one in the 04-05 model years...I know it is on the 08+.

Not sure why you can't hear it...run more boost? haha

04-05 WRX/STI BPV are the same. You should be able to hear it with the windows rolled up. How loud is your exhaust? It might be drowning it out.

the HKS SSQ works very good on the subarus, i have done many setups with these and its barely even noticeable in the way the car drives and reacts.

i am also running a special on the subie kits so pm for details.

I run a Turbosmart Dual Port without any issues. However, I am tuned for it and I am not on the stock intercooler/turbo.
