JOB DESCRIPTION: INetU has an opening for a System Support Specialist to assist our clients and help in the growth and management of our network. Candidates will provide telephone and email technical support to our clients, oversee systems monitoring, and perform scheduled tasks and maintenance. Opportunities exist to work independently on projects. We are not a call center. Our clients run sophisticated environments, therefore a high level of technical ability and potential is necessary to succeed here. Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision is required.

NOTE: Must be able and willing to work weekends and holidays. This job is a member of the team that provides 24 X 7 X 365 on-site support and administration coverage. We currently have openings for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift.

Requirements
- The desire and ability to become a triple threat in networking, Windows, and Unix environments.
- A solid understanding of common Internet protocols such as HTTP/S, DNS, FTP, SMTP, POP, IMAP and SSH
- Excellent diagnostic abilities and problem solving skills
- Some College/College Degree Preferred or equivalent experience
- The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clients via phone and e-mail
- The desire to help people solve their complex problems by being courteous, professional, and determined.
- The understanding that a client’s perception of the quality of service we provide IS the quality of service we provide.
- Desired Windows Server experience includes the following:
Understanding of Windows Server Administration and security for 2000, 2003, and 2008
Familiarity with Microsoft IIS, Exchange, SQL Server, backup and recovery procedures.
MCP, MCSE, or MCITP Certifications are a plus.
- Desired Unix/Linux experience includes the following:
Knowledge of Unix command line is essential
Experience with Red Hat Linux including its installation, configuration and maintenance
Experience with FreeBSD including its installation, configuration, and maintenance
Familiarity with Apache, MySQL, qmail, backup and recovery procedures (you forgot the root password and you have physical access to the machine, what do you do?)
RHCE, RHCT, or LPIC certifications are a plus
-Desired Networking experience includes the following:
Familiarity with LAN technology (Can you distinguish a MAC address from a default gateway from a subnet mask?)
Familiarity with TCP/IP (Can you name at least one difference between TCP and UDP?)
Familiarity with firewalls and VPNs (e.g. being able to determine if a firewall is blocking access)
-Optional skills and interests
Desire to learn about load balanced and high availability environments using hardware based solutions
Knowledge of NAS and SAN technology
Experience with scripting (e.g. shell, vbscript) or programming (e.g. perl, Python, PHP, java, C, C#)
Database high availability architectures such as mirroring, replication, clusters, and DRBD.
A home network that would shame most corporate networks (10G or Gig Ethernet, DIY SAN/NAS, clustered file servers, multiple terabytes of on-line storage, UPS protection, etc.)
-The inherent desire to fix things permanently and not place on band-aids, tempered with the realistic notion that “perfect is the enemy of the great.”

This job is considered Medium Work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Wow sounds like a killer position but I'm definitely not knowledgeable enough. I know the very basics about a lot the stuff and I'm a little more knowledgeable in a few areas (programming, protocols, mysql, little networking).
