Goddabob's 95 240SX going VQ35DE
So I bought this cluster of problems for a few benjamins. Since my WRX is done I needed a new project. After 3 months of watching Craigslist I spotted this car and picked it up the very next day. The kid I bought it off of had bought the car from a towing company in Lancaster, then sold it to me. He said the car had been sitting a year. It has a few things already done but its all basic stuff. I had originally been looking for a coupe but couldnt pass up this deal. Mods: Drivetrain: J30 Diff/ Axles 300zx Front Brakes Pacesetter Header Resonator Test Pipe HKS Hi-Power Exhaust Mishimoto Radiator Mishimoto Electric Fans & Shroud Suspension: 350z Wheels 17inch Circuit Sports V2 Short Shifter Aluminum Subframe Collars Stance Coilovers Exterior: Amber Turn Signals & Bumper Lights B Magic Overfenders (not installed) Carbon Fiber Hood (faded not installed) Aerocatch Latches (not installed) Goofy Mirrors Circuit Sport Exhaust Hangers Shaved Trunk Shaved Wing Shaved Antennae Interior: Personal Neo Grinta Steering Wheel NRG Short Hub NRG Quick Release 2.0 Recaro Pole Position Seat Buddy Club Ultra Low Rail RCI 5 Point Cam Lock Harnesses Problems: Broken Passenger Window (fixed) Passenger Window off Track (fixed) Salvage Title (fixed) Compression 90 50 50 90 Headgasket? (repleaced) Leaking Valve Cover (fixed) Two 3 inch rust spot on the undercarriage Bondo/ Surface rust on drivers side quarter Someone tap danced on the roof Tail light garnish cracked (fixed/ replaced) Missing a wheel stud Bald tires ( replaced) Front fenders are out of alignment Pics: The day I picked up the car. On my way to pick up the vehicle, best part is the gf co-piloted the voyage. What a sexy ass, just need to ditch the wing. Faded flat black ftl Yeh surface rust sucks, so does the 1 foot section of bondo in the front section of the quarter panel. Plans: Get the car inspected, and go through reconstruction process. Drive it /beat on it for a month or so then tear it down to the shell and paint it inside and out. Nothing crazy planned yet but we will see. This car will be staying a ZENKI, for one I'm too cheap to do a conversion. Number two the front end grew on me, I just need to change the bumper lights and sidemarkers to amber lights. They are the JDM ones? Last edited by Goddabob; 01-12-2010 at 10:09 PM. |

How the car is sitting right now. I pulled the seats to clean the glass. I just have a few stains to scrub out, overall not bad. A better front end shot. The back seats of this car are a joke. I cant image anyone sitting back there. |

Luckily its only rough on the roof and drivers quarter, I am also lucky enough to have a good friend to help me with the body work.
As I dont have the skills or patience to do major body work. The extra set of hands will be nice for re aligning the front fenders. Does anyone know if a Nissan Altima KA24de has the same length dipstick as a 240sx? Mine is missing and I just so happen to have an altima going to the junkyard. |

And for the lights...
Cant you just use a amber bulb? That way you can keep the pretty lights and not have to buy new ones and spend more money I have amber lights in and the car looks great at night but I prefer how the car looks with amber side lights with amber bumper lights. I have found the bumper lights for $25 a piece which I can justify since my bracket is broke on the passenger side. I cant find amber side lights, from what I have read people paint them with USDM Tamiya Translucent Orange paint. Do you paint the inside or outside? The look I'm going for with my lights Pics of what I did today after work. I am seriously considering pulling the motor to service it/ check the clutch and paint the engine bay. The red is pissing me off. A few parts will not be going back in like the ac. I also have some rust to fix from under the battery. |

No, ugh. But its getting close. I think my other update got deleted twice.
So here we go again. I yanked the motor to do a semi-rebuild and check the internals since the car has 188k miles on it. Compression was 90 50 50 90 do to a blown headgasket. Motor also looked like it had some leaks so I pulled it. The list of things I changed: Headgasket Felpro Milled the head Waterpump Thermostat Rear Main Seal Alternator Belt Intake Seal Felpro Front Crank Seal Oil Pressure Switch Timing Chain Guide The work bench. Helped me stay organized. Guide snapped in half. Bearings looked alright. I have eliminated the AC 2 valve taps in the first cyclinder. Cylinder walls and valves look fine. Motor is in, had some set backs like putting the intake manifold gasket on backwards and totally forgetting the exhaust gasket.
But its in and sounds good. I should be doing my reconstruction inspection tomorrow so it should be road legal by the end of the week. I am planning on attending sloppy mechanics dyno day to see what this little whore can put down. This is fender gap is giving me problems. |

good to hear.... Was it the headgasket that was giving you the low compression? I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that forgets to put the exhaust gasket back on. haha
