Not too sure where to put this. Need virus help.

lil background. About two weeks ago thepiratebay.org went down for a day or two. I needed, well wanted, to download the current episode of true blood on that day. So i searched google for a torrent site. Well i found one, downloaded the file....and the fit hit the shan. Whatever anti virus or spyware software I had said i just got some nasty ****....but nothing really happened. Didnt slow down to much, didnt go nuts.

Fast forward....today.

I barely use said laptop and never usually shut it down, today i decided to use it and it was running slow, so i figured id restart (most likely for the first time since I got the virus). Well when i logged back in, i get a spyware notice, some programs start to launch, then the system automatically restarts. Its done this 5 times so far. As soon as i log in it restarts the computer. HELP.

Have you tried booting up in safe mode?

Have you tried F8 while restarting and tried "Last known good configuration?"

Or.... to do a system restore from safe mode with command prompt...

F8 during start up (before the splash screen) to enter safe mode with command prompt.. Type in "C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe" without the quotes and then press enter. Then there will be instructions to do a system restore.

IF it's a virus, safe mode should let you get it running and run a virus scan.

Depending how long you get when it starts up, try:

# Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
# The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.
# The computer restarts in Safe mode.

so i thought that was gonna work, and while restoring to a month ago gave me more time before it restarted, it still restarted.

on another computer download 2 programs and put the installs on a disk:

- Malwarebytes
- Spybot search and destroy

Turn off the computer, when you start it back up keep pressing F8 (dont hold it) and start in safe mode... Install, update, and run both programs and when they find stuff get rid of it.

Thats only if you have time really. If not search the net for a cure. Its a common virus. Also... Mininova.org next time or isohunt.com...
