new rebuild...no start
cliff notes: -07 sti, new rebuild -not starting -starts with cam sensor unplugged but only fires on drivers side -spark plugs on passenger side smell like fuel (NOT drenched in fuel, just a little fuel) -things i did: checked timing, swapped plugs and coilpacks, swapped cam sensors from side to side, checked for fueling -doing next: putting in new cam sensors and crank sensor DONE...NO CHANGE -HELP to start off, this is an 07 sti and it is located at my parents house, so i have limited time to work on the car. the motor was built by a reputable builder, justice racing with the following parts -cp 99.75 pistons -manley turbo tuff rods -acl bearings -arp headstuds -killer b oil pickup and baffle -bc 272 -bc springs retainers -PnP heads -new oil pump -new waterpump -gates timing belt -complete new gasket kit with stock headgasket and i might be missing something from that list. now onto my issues. i installed the motor and all other mods myself which include -treadstone 6262 rotated kit -44mm ewg -agency power UEL headers -invidia n1 race cat back -turbosmart eboost -aem wideband -mishimoto radiator -crawford AoS -perrin FMIC -act 6 puck clutch -lightweight flywheel -utec delta -dw 1000cc injectors -perrin fuel rails -tgv deletes -PnP intake manifold -aeromotive 340lph in tank -tial q bov now onto my issues lol when i tried to start the car for the first time it seemed to sound weird when trying to start it. almost like a whiney cranking sound and didnt even sound like it tried to start ( i can take video when i go back to work on the car). after looking into the issue further i came across a thread saying it could be camshaft sensor so i unplugged the drivers side and the cranking sound changed to sound like a "more productive crank" (seems like it actually wanted to start). so just for ****s, i held the gas pedal all the way to the floor and it finally caught and started after ~10 seconds of cranking, it would not idle, if i did not stay on the gas a little the car would die. so... i plugged in the cam sensor...same issue (didnt even try and start) so i looked further into the issue and found out the passenger side spark plugs were perfectly clean (but they smelled like gas, so im assuming it is getting fuel on that side) i then swapped the coil packs, unplugged the cam sensor, got it running and still not spark on passenger side. im so lost at what to do next. things i have done: -timing is good (checked multiple times) -put in new sparks plugs -swapped coilpacks -swapped cam sensors from left side to right -checked for fuel next on my list is replacing both cam sensors and the crank sensor. any advice would be awesome. thanks for the help! for those who may want to see what was already posted check out the thread here http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2299129 -Matt |

Are there any other odd things happening? Temp gauge pegging to hot when key is turned to run position? Fans cycling? Are the grounds tight on top of the intake manifold? Is the big connector by the down pipe locked in? Have you tried pulling codes from the ECU?

Everything else seems to be pretty much normal as far as temp gauge and fans. I will recheck my grounds again once I get to work on it again. Regarding the connector, I reseated a couple different time and still same issue. And unless I unplug one of the sensors, the car doesn't throw any codes at all : /

You can pester.. its ok :P It could be a bad air gap from the BC cams.. Try shaving down the plastic on the cam sensor where they bolt to the head. Not the actual sensor just the flange. Basically you are trying to close the gap for the pick up. basically making the flange thinner. just a little tho. Also, maf sensor pointing the right way?? What setting do you have the Utec in? If you want, bring the car here. Im sure I can get it fired up quickly |

Even though I know it's probably bad, I took out the utec and installed the Cobb accessport and tried starting it with the Dom 3 tune and still was no change in the way it started. So I ruled out a bad utec I guess? Lol |
