Hard Wiring Your Garmin GPS

so my family got me a garmin nuvi gps for christmas and i want to hardwire it. im thinking i could run the wire down and tap into the fuse panel. totally hidden and with a little slack if i wish to move it a little bit. i put in against the a pillar so thats it outa the way and the fuse panel is litterly right below it. any ideas? what would be a good wire to tap into? or would tapping into the ignition wires in the sterring colum be better as there ment to handle more load? what do you guys think?

u can hardwire it up by the mirror and tap into the power for the light up there. and it would look clean but would be a pain to have a gps up there.

but i would say its a bad idea to leave a gps in the car 24/7

nah i just simply unplugs from the wire, just like a cell phone dose.
so when im not in the car, ill just take it out.
that is a really good idea though, but the map lights are a constant allways on circuit. i want to it be on a "hot only when the key is on" circuit so that if i did leave it in the car, it wouldnt kill the battery

why not go to something switched, like the ignition or the Cig lighter (assuming it turns off with the car).
