cause 6x9s arent made for bass, thy are made for mids & highs. get yourself a 10" or 12" round sub if you want some thump. you should also look into getting a decent amp. cheap power in = cheap power out.

i'm going to have to agree with what he said. 6x9's aren't meant for bass.

yea the wires are run right. I guess I was just expecting more lows from them. Ive had 6X9s in other cars and they really thumped.

BTW....Ive read really bad things about putting subs in miatas. They just dont do well. I dont know if putting a 10' sub in the trunk is going to do much for me.

I love how audio companies will sell peak and then say the RMS is 50% less when in actuality true RMS Route Mean Square is .707 of peak. Just a way of inflating the numbers because if they are true at 50watts RMS the peak would only be 70.7 Watts.
But 6x9 are just an OK cheaper alternative. The best thing if you don't want subs is a quality component set, a 3 way set would be best. I have the old Boston 653s around, Paid 700 for, but sound amazing rated at 300 watts RMS, deep bass, awesome sound. But the main reason is a 6x9 woofer under a mid and tweeter moving in free air with little depth response produce the very low frequencies. They may be sold as 25-30Khz but they probably don't respond much under 80hz. Also what kinda amp is powering these? Last edited by OutToWinPAHC; 01-01-2009 at 04:08 AM. |

Cheap setup= cheap sound. I made that mistake before thinking i would have half decent sound but it turned out to be false. ha
these http://www.crutchfield.com/p_136VR69...ml?tp=91&avf=N With a decent amp would do amazing

I dont feel like my stereo is a "cheap setup" ...well besides the amp. We are talking about a car that doesnt have a real roof..im not going to put a LOT of cash into a stereo. But, I think I have all good quality components. The Polks I got are good speakers. They are crystal clear, even when you crank them so loud you cant sit in the car. There is just a lack of DEEEEEP bass. Bass has always been an issue in the miatas though. They arent set up well enough to create bass. Ide love to find another miata guy local whos got subs and all...but its not very easy. There have been people who built top shelf systems for miatas and come out disappointed.

Here are the only two ways that I know of, to get good bass out of a miata.
http://www.miata.net/hakuna/subspeak.html Then this one...see if you can tell what he did here. All custom done...seems to work well^^

that's retarded. noone needs to go all out with anything. this guy says he's looking for great sound without dumping a lot of cash into the system. that's easy to do for a reasonable price and everyone above has listed the proper things to do. better amp, add a small sub, etc etc.

Bass is reproduced through a sub, not speakers. Speakers are designed to produce Mids and highs. Bass shouldnt be an issue in any vehicle, Ive done a handfull of miatas and they all sounded great. If you wanna hear a good sounding Miata, take a roll down to GVAutosport and check out Carl's Miata. If its deep bass your looking for to fill the void in sound quality in your car, pick up a 10" sub and small amp....You will enjoy it.

WOW...I dont know what I did, but I did something lol. I just went out and sat in the car. I moved the speakers a bit, adjusted some setting on the amp...and a few little things on the headunit. Needless to say, I found the bass I was after! I mean...the hardtop was rattling and my seats were vibrating. That made me happy

Seems like bad tuning was more the issue then quality of the purchase

No SuprGhost..not trying to "douse the flames" My car is like..4 square feet inside lol. It doesnt take much to make things rattle nd shake. With THAT being said..i've tracked down a sub. Its 10inch audibahn competition sub. Its in a good size box for the sub, and its slotted on the front. The box/sub came out of my brothers Jetta. We are working out the details now for it. Hopefully I can get this...then buy a decent amp that will push the speakers AND sub. See what I can come up with
