I'd buy an EVO 8/9 if you can find one for the right price, that isn't molested, and beat to hell.

Youre gonna have no storage in a small sedan like that, cant go wrong on a hatch

Then you can get a Ralliart Sportback, but then you loose the manual trans, kinda.

This was what I was thinking, too. I really like the WRX hatch, but I doubt I can afford it. I'm doing the whole professional student thing right now (read: broke) so the Impreza hatch might be a good compromise.

Personally, I love the Evo 8 but finding an unmolested one that's low in mileage that's also affordable is a needle in a haystack, at this point. With the move, I need something lower in miles and reliable. So many Evos have been beaten on so hard.

Definitely want to keep the manual trans no matter what, I'm a much more attentive driver when driving stick and I'm going to be traveling long distances, probably.

Thanks everyone for all the input!

Yeah, I was looking at them also, but they were also higher mileage and were probably beat to hell. Thats why I just went with a new car, unfortunatley wasn't an EVO X. I couldn't see myself spending $40k+ on a car.

the wrx hatch isnt "that" expensive. i put 4k down and pay 380 a month. if you put 11k down from selling the civic i'd imagine the payment wouldn't be terrible. i love mine. not one single problem, well except smiling all the time.....

I hear that. I definitely can't spend that sort of money!

That's subjective. It's still expensive for me because I'm still going to have to shell out the cash for the move and a new apartment. When you're in school and they basically don't pay you much, buying food is tough, not to mention buying a car.

Thanks for the link! I still think a lot of the ones that aren't beat to hell are a bit out of my price range, though!

This isn't a bad idea! Although I think going from a supercharged one to a stock one would feel so weird!

What are you working with money wise? Only the money from selling the coupe?

Yeah, maybe a few grand more, but I have to be pretty cost conscious until I figure out where I'm moving. If I move to Chicago, funds won't be as tight. If I move to Boston....I'm going to be broke for awhile! I'm in total sticker shock looking at apartment prices there. Pittsburgh is dirt cheap, comparatively.

I saw some newer Subaru Imprezas in the $14,500 range, which would probably be do-able.

I'm at a point where I know I can't necessarily buy the "fun" car I want (like a WRX or an Evo) because I am really going to need something reliable, decent on MPGs, and drive-able in weather that isn't so great. It's a bummer but in the end, it will pay off and I'll be back into something a little more exciting.

That makes sense and is a smart decision as opposed to jumping into something you cant afford. I would definitely suggest a hatch impreza then, but Im a little bias towards subaru. But for what youre looking for it seems to be the best fit, in your price range, plenty of room for storage, 20-30mpg, awd and still a nice looking car. I dont think you can go wrong for your money.

Or a TDI Golf. You can still have some fun and get a tune and have crazy torque.

That's what I'm thinking. Plus, I've always loved Subarus. My brother has owned like 3 or 4 STis and I've always been a huge fan of them. They're a blast. I'd certainly miss the speed and handling in the Impreza, but it would definitely fit all of the needs I currently have for a vehicle.

Good suggestion, although I do tend to shy away from VW. I don't want to unleash the VW/Honda battle, and I know plenty of people with clean, nice VWs. They just aren't my style! I can see the appeal in something like a Golf, though. I miss the sensation of torque...especially in my car! Although I'm not sure I want too much torque anyway. It snows a lot in Boston...

Youre definitley gonna get a comfortable amount of speed and control with the impreza, my roommates 2.5 n/a is faster than most average cars, the awd really helps
