Someone help me with Windows 7

Alright, well I used Windows 7 a few months ago, but my FPS in games dramatically dropped, so I quickly switched back to XP. Today I reinstalled 7 and have been trying to figure out whats going on all day... I have found lots of complaints about W7 fps issues, and just as many responses saying W7 increased fps...

My computer is old, but its not god awful...

Time of this report: 2/16/2010, 23:32:02
Machine name: RACECAR
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_rtm.090713-1255)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: NVIDIA
System Model: AWRDACPI
BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+, ~2.0GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 2048MB RAM
Page File: 1051MB used, 3043MB available
Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
User DPI Setting: Using System DPI
System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled
DxDiag Version: 6.01.7600.16385 32bit Unicode

What is causing this? When I say my FPS is dropping dramatically, I mean dramatically... In counter strike, I will go from a constant 100fps in 5 smokes, to 70FPS just from the muzzle flash of the gun. I have updated the display driver, I have set windows display to performance, my nvidia profile is all set to performance... Could it be that my graphics card just isnt W7 compatible?

Which graphics card is it? W7 has aero enabled, that could be stealing a LOT of graphical power.

Wow, dude, you need a new card lol. 128mb? That, and more of your dedicated system RAM, is probably being eaten up by windows aero and then your games are running off of whatever little off-GPU ram there is(part of your 2 gigs of system RAM) and probably some, even slower, virtual memory. You need a new card with at least 512mb of RAM and if that doesn't work then just disable windows aero.

The goldsrc (Half-Life 1) engine, hates 64bit operating systems. My Counter-Strike/Half-life with Windows 7 took a bit of a hit when I upgraded. All I did was buy a new, upgraded video card and bought more RAM. Either way, you gotta get a better video card. I can't imagine having only 128mb of video memory.

if you only have 2gigs of ram, you should probably be using the 32bit version of windows7.

How do I disable windows aero? I have used XP 64bit and it worked fine... I am not going to upgrade this hunk of junk, just to run Windows 7, haha. I will just keep XP on it I guess. I don't really play graphic intense games, so I am not to worried about having more than 2g of ram and a better video card, although I guess I could just send the card back to Evga for an upgrade, I am due for another... Since I am still stuck in the past with AGP, I think they are replacing my 6800 with a 6400 512mb card.

Also, your card is AGP and you couldn't upgrade to a newer pci express card unless you get a new motherboard. Seems like your choices are either windows xp or a new computer or new components.
