Hey guys I was wondering how you test for exhaust leaks as I recently installed an exhaust and I just wanted to check for leaks. Also I would like to know what an exhaust leak affects. Does it hurt performance if so why? Any help would be great thanks.

A simple way....run seafoam through the motor...since thick white smoke is gona come out of the exhaust, you can see if its leaking anywhere. We discovered an exhaust leak on a buddy's 95 gt stang this way

edit: do it with seafoam, and youll clean the motor out a bit too lol

Cool I have seafoam too...Ill try it out this weekend... Also do you know what the benefits of sealing off an exhaust leak would be?

Not too sure but IIRC

better MPG
better power
less noise

why dont you try it and tell us

on turbo cars it doesn't really affect performance unless its before the cat and throws a code.

well if its a pre-turbo exhaust leak then it will hurt your performance and spool time...but don't think you'll notice any real difference other then the noise if its somewhere in your exhaust...

true, i forgot to mention that, but i assumed its after the turbo..

Yeah, like they said. An exhaust leak on a turbo car will only make a little more noise.
