Question about a turbo I found on a Saab

Ok so I was at the junkyard for a little bit today (at which time I got poison ivy all over my arm) and I found an older turbo saab. The turbo on it was seriously no bigger then like 5-6" across, if that. I dont know if it was good or what, I'm just curious about it. Does anybody know anything about these turbos? Anyone know how many PSI they can handle?

Probably a t3 .48 standard wheel turbine and a .42 cold side a/r with a tiny t3 wheel. Too small for any serious application and probably beat as well, older900's and 9000's are usually high mile cars. Get 3 more though and a quad turbo setup for your stang would be pretty nifty.

That depends entirely on the SAAB you pulled it off of. If you can be more specific about the car or the markings on the turbo I can figure it out for you. If it's a T25 off a 9000 they can push 20 psi max (on a 2.3), good for round about 250 hp. Get two and you could build a pretty decent twin turbo setup.

In that case, it'll work but it's not optimal. Even though a d16 is only 1590 cc's, it is a very efficient engine and most stock turbos on jy cars are sized to make them appear non-existant, like a bigger n/a engine. T3/t4 hybrids are a dime a dozen and you'll have greater potential, cooler charge temps, and a better chance for reliability. Check the mileage on the junkyard car turbo, many are junked simply because the turbo blew(what is it on? squatty body 900?). A good reasonably priced turbo for an intercooled stockish d16 would be any of the to4e wheels from 46-57 trim and a .48 turbine with a stage 3 wheel. .63(anyway for the 57 trim) if you would'nt mind a bit of lag for a stronger top end.
