Some new updates...

Got some toys the other week...

1.75" x 5.5" die

Cost: $290 shipped... not much too it, just solid metal machined down and heavy.

The Bender:

Cost: $498.95 shipped... MUCH better quality than ones at school. I have plans for it the ones at school somewhere but decided to just buy a better one than make a better one. Came with degree gauge and magnetic pointer... should make bending multiple items much more efficient and accurate. At school it was always pulling the tube out checking with an angle finder and then putting back in to bend more or putting it on a frame bench and trying to un-bend it some.

The notcher:

Weighs just over 20 lbs. Frikkin heavy, the ones at school were so flimsy and cost $150... this one cost me $271 shipped and is much better quality and can also do offset notching unlike the ones at school that only did notching on the ends.

Worked on the car some today. I pulled the carpet, dash, dash bar, firewall sound deadening / plastic stuff, AC/Heater blower and vents and most of the wiring harnesses.

I havent fixed that area yet... but I will be cutting it out and putting in new.

My 220v Millermatic 180 MIG welder was ~$900 and after gloves, a welding blanket, wire, and misc stuff it came out to around $1,400.

TIG welders are more expensive. Looking at around $3,500 + for a good TIG welder that will be good for most work. A all around TIG welder is closer to the $5,500 range. Thats what I'm planning on so I can TIG up a custom turbo mani and exhaust.

Question...

I'm removing A/C completely... Should I also remove heat for a even emptier bay and shaved firewall? This will also remove some weight from the front 1/2 of the car in turn having a better front to rear ratio (what is a 240 stock?)

I plan on doing the firewall in that gold heat reflective film (looks and function).

I'm thinking of also relocating a master cylinder up inside the dash and then running the hoses out lower on the firewall. This is all in plans to run a nice custom manifold and good size turbo (yet to be determined, car will be running for a while before I do the turbo setup).

Plans are to knock out the engine bay and same with exterior. I love the fact the car is manual windows, no sunroof, no rear wiper, or spoiler.

I'm really into fabrication work and also want to get into composite work. I'm reading up on CF work and that will come into play further down the road starting with the roof and A- pillar outer skins.

I'm still a "beginner" tho with limited knowledge from classes at WyoTech and a lot of reading up... so it takes some time and trial and error.
