2nd Annual Cold Tire Domination February 23rd. Who's In?

Well we're doing it again in 2013. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, last February a number of friends hosted a DE event at NJMP's Thunderbolt circuit. Since it was such a great success, we decided to give it another go for Saturday, February 23rd 2013.

We worked out pricing for the upcoming 2013 event, which is as follows:

On or Before 12/31/2012

Instructed student (beginner or intermediate) - $225

Solo (beginner/intermediate/advanced) - $200

Instructor - $175

After 1/1/2013

Instructed student (beginner or intermediate) - $240

Solo (beginner/intermediate/advanced) - $215

Instructor - $190

This is a privately run event and costs have significantly increased since last year. We did our best to distributed costs and provide and incentive for instructors to sign up and attend. We have reserved garages again this year and they will be assigned to the first 20 to register.

Any questions can be posted in here, PM'd to me or emailed to Marc at alwaysinboost@msn.com. Marc will be handling payment and registration so any specific questions are best forwarded to him. I can answer any questions related to the event and overall operational things.

Thanks to our sponsor

Justin (oneday.js) posted a thread for last year's event in this section which generated a decent response.

And for those of you unfamiliar with NJMP, check out www.njmp.com

The event is hosted by a group of Evo owners last year and this year which is why there are Evos all over the pictures. This year we are distributing pint glasses thanks to our sponsor (JSC Speed) and they will be in control of the design this year.

You should sign up and run your subie. I can guarantee that you will have an awesome time.

I'm curious, how dependent is this on the weather? What if it snows or their is snow on the ground?

Thanks Jeff.

All of what Jeff said is correct. If you're a first timer or novice you will be assigned an instructor. The thread that Jeff posted has good info. Basically you need a car in decent condition, 50% tire tread and brake pad material left and fresh brake fluid. Everything else will be dependent on the driver and his/her ability to follow instruction.

It a hell of a lot more fun than I just made it sound. Email Marc at the address above if you're ready to sign up.

You will also need a closed face helmet with a rating of SA or M 2005 of newer.

so this is $240 w/ a provided instructor?

What is this exactly? I'm very interested in getting some instructed laps in my vette! Been on thunderbolt before in a Miata (see profile pic) and it was a blast.

If your on the OEM tires you would be wasting your money in these temps.

It's $225 for instructed student and $240 after 12/31/2012.

The event is run in regular HPDE format. That is high performance driver education. It's not a race or a timed event. It's an event that allows you opportunity to drive your car as it was engineered to be driven on a racetrack.

It's quite simply the most fun you'll have.

I'm not sure what your experience at tbolt in the miata consisted of but if it were an HPDE then it'll be more of less the same thing. If it were paced laps behind a pace car then this is not what this event is.

He will more than likely be fine on summer rubber for this event. We all will be on summer rubber for the most part.

sounds like a blast! I think what i did was more or less the pace car thing since i was with the novice group. no passing, follow the leader. which sucked being in a spec 5 miata behind a bunch or slow porches ;)

i'll sign up after i get paid tomorrow.

the stock run flats are ****, but people do track them. if it means I can turn a faster lap, but still have fun... fine with me. Any recommended track day car insurance providers?

I don't have any experience with the corvette OEM tires but if people use them for track days then I'm sure they will be more than sufficient, especially for your first day.

Lockton will be provide HPDE insurance. Our event isn't listed on their site yet but should be as we get closer to the event. You can find all the info you need here:

http://hpdeins.locktonaffinity.com/

Also what your previous experience sounds like is a format that NJMP runs on their own for beginners but I could be wrong.

you're right about that being something NJMP runs on their own. I rented a spec 5 miata from DILYSI racing (when they existed)

Will i need to sign up through Lockton for the insurance and pay separately, or does your price include their insurance? (which ends up seeming really cheap for a HPDE)

I won't be pushing my car hard enough to go off course, i need to drive it home haha

appreciate you answering my multitude of questions. I've been wanting to get this car on the track and really drive it

Lockton is a separate cost from the $225 for the event.

In order to sign up, email Marc at the address above (alwaysinboost@msn.com). He accepts payment via PayPal and can fill you in on anything else you'd like to know or you can just ask in this thread. We are pushing 20 participant after only having had registration open for less than two days. We are capping cars at 60.

As long as you drive within your skill and comfort zone, I have no doubt that you'll be driving home all shiney still.

Also while you're researching things, take a look at HPDE via google. There is a lot more to it that I didn't cover in just a few short sentences.

Hope to see you signed up and ready to have the most fun you'll have.
