restored dads 1971 bmw motorcycle

my dad got this bike when i was about 4 years old. we used to take it all over the country when i was younger. it has always had the full fairing, bags, back rest on it. few weeks ago we decided to put it back to original. put new fork boots, driveshaft boot, paint, tons of misc bolts, and a LOT of cleaning. she's a 1971 r60/5 with around 215k miles on the original motor. now that the body is back to mint we'll tear into the motor one winter, maybe put bigger cyl heads on it and make it a 900cc. here's some before and after pics. tank/fenders were badly dinged and lots of paint missing. color is nighthawk black pearl found on civic's has a real blueish/purple metallic in it.

before(yuck)

during

finished product.

I have to be honest I saw the first pic before I saw you say before and was about to vomit lol. I would have kept the strip like the original since that look with the black is usally pretty hot but all in all not bad.

we can always do pin striping later on if we want(prob would be done in vinyl), but the color was my dads choice, and it turned out flawless. the bike was setup that way since the 70's, lol. we used it to travel, and that it did very well(just not pretty, lol)

Oh yeah you can definitely add the stripe later. It's nice to see them fixed instead of run into the ground and then tossed on Craigslist for someone to part out you know.
