Subaru, Only auto dealer with positive sales

http://www.autospies.com

Quote:
Subaru of America today announced a 0.3% sales increase for full-year 2008 sales over 2007. Driven by record results for its Impreza, Legacy and Forester model lines, Subaru was the only full-line brand with positive sales through November 2008. (Full-year results for other makers are not known at time of posting).
The year-over-year sales increase adds to the good news the company enjoyed in 2008: the Subaru Forester was named 2009 Motor Trend Sport/Utility of the Year and the company was awarded the title Automotive Marketer of the Year by Mediapost.com and the brand has performed well in Kelley Blue Book and ALG ratings.

Subaru has also announced it will show a Concept Legacy Sedan at
the upcoming North American International Auto Show (Jan. 11, 2009) to
showcase a potential direction for the model that celebrates 20 years
of U.S. sales and production in 2009.

Tim Colbeck, vice president of sales for Subaru of America said, "To post increased sales for the year the Industry has just experienced reflects the strength of our products, our dealers and the Subaru brand. In a difficult market we were able to establish new sales records for Forester, Impreza and Legacy sedan and also record our highest market share ever."

Tom Doll, executive vice president for Subaru of America said, "Our 2008 sales results are tribute not only to our product offerings, but also to the commitment, perseverance and dedication of our retail sales network. Our strategy was to concentrate on building our brand image and also to leverage the value, performance and utility of our products rather than focus on "selling the deal", and that strategy has allowed us to significantly outperform the market."
I heard this on the news last night and thought it was rather interesting.

they aren't a full line auto maker. But that is still pretty impressive.

Automotive News Europe
January 8, 2009 15:00 CET

FRANKFURT (Reuters) -- Volkswagen's premium brand Audi hit the 1 million mark in vehicle sales last year as promised, brushing off a slump in the global car market to notch its 13th straight year of rising volumes. Boosted by last year's relaunch of its popular A4 mid-size estate, the company said on Thursday sales rose 4.1 percent to 1,003,400 vehicles.

The Ingolstadt-based carmaker enjoyed a strong finish to the year as the launch of its Q5 mid-size sport utility vehicle gave a 17.4 percent lift to sales in December, when Audi sold a total of 82,800 units.

Last month its sales growth in western Europe amounted to nearly 23 percent, outpacing Asia-Pacific's 16 percent growth.

"We will build on this strength in a difficult 2009 as well," Audi Chief Executive Rupert Stadler said in a statement, although no outlook of any kind was disclosed.

The company said it would provide one during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, due to kick off on Sunday with the first media day.

Unlike its closest competitors, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, Audi has so far managed to steer clear of hundreds of millions in writedowns due to declines in the expected resale value of its cars coming off lease.

This has helped to shield profits at a crucial time when all three are battling a severe slump in global car markets.

While both BMW and Mercedes parent Daimler have warned twice they would not meet their 2008 earnings targets, Audi has reaffirmed its goal of growing profits in line with revenue and car sales.

Through the first nine months, operating profit rose 13.6 percent, easily outpacing a rise of 2.1 percent in turnover.

Volkswagen ordinary shares rose 1 percent to 298.05 euros by 10:11 CET, while the more liquid preferred stock slipped 2.7 percent to 39.27 euros.

Porsche has the highest rates of customer satisfaction. Their sales have dropped here but overseas they are still doing good.
