Need help from the TST gun owners/experts

Looking for a nice subcompact 9mm. My 2 choices are either the...

Glock 26

or

Springfield Armory XD9

I havent seen pricing on the XD9 but I know the 26 is under 400. Price isnt a big player on this really since this isnt something I wanna skimp on. Any suggestions on either of these or may one I havent looked at yet.

I would give you the same advice as buying a car, go to an indoor range and rent both and box of 9mm ammo and see which one you like better. Good luck and they are both great pistols.

Know of a range that rents out pistols? I didnt know you could do that. I think its a really good idea. I wouldnt wanna buy one and totally hate the fit and feel of it. Its not like a car you can easily sell. lol.

He was a member so you might have to buy a membership. I dont think they are that expensive and its nice to take your pistol/guests whenever you want.

I found a place called ShoreShot in Lakewood. Im gonna call them tomorrow since the site talks about rentals. I wanna see if I can rent both of those handguns before I make the trek down there. Im gonna look into Targetmasters also.

owning the glock 26, I am VERY happy with it.

my best advice to you however, is to do just as redline suggested: go to a range & test them out for yourself. I frequently go to Targetworld which is near the montgomery mall, as well as classic pistol, which is in southampton. targetworld has a HUGE facility & alot more guns availible to buy as well as rent. Classic pistol is smaller, but has a nicer indoor facility IMO and is also closer to where i live.

if they dont have them availible for rent, at least get them in your hands & check out the grip & the sights. this will be helpful in deciding on one to buy.

most places require a liscense or photo ID to rent. membership isnt a requirement to shoot or rent - you will just end up paying more for the rental time if you are not a member.

is this your first gun purchase?

First handgun yes. So Im kinda clueless when it comes to them. Im been reading up on the different safety and training classes also.

Fred, any chance of maybe finding a day to meetup at one of those places and going over acouple things? I know its probably alot to ask but I wanna find someone who is used to handguns to possibly learn a thing or two from.

I really like alot of the features of the XD. The 2 locks on the trigger and lock to prevent accidental firing, the chamber load indicator and striker indicator seem very useful and awesome features that the Glock doesnt have. But that doesnt mean anything is the feel and quality of the XD isnt up to par. So far the Glock has nothing but positive reviews from people.

i have the 27 and i love it. its a little more kick than the 26, but for the same price. the clip extender is your friend with the glock. its almost impossible to control without one. but they're only like an extra $10. i vote glock because i think i cleaned mine once in the year and a half i had it, and it only took like 10 minutes.

not a problem. shoot me a pm & we can find a time & place to go. If your plan for this gun is for concealed carry, I would HIGHLY reccomend taking a course prior to actually owning one, or at the very least - waiting til the course starts to purchase a gun. most courses are very reasonable in terms of pricing and they include processing a concealed weapon permit with the course.

The plan is home defense and for the range only. Jersey is really rough with carry permits. I dont think you can just get one without having your job require you to carry or something of that nature. I could be very wrong thou.
Ill PM you about meeting up. thanks man.

Stay off the glock bandwagon, Sig all the way IMO. I think you will be happier, i know i liked it better.

P.S. I would pick the springfield if i only had those 2 to choose from. Springfields are VERY nice pieces.
