s3xrapt0rs 88 mr2 build aw11 ftw !

so... about 3 weeks ago i was surfing craigslist when i came upon an amazingly clean mr2.. long story short i picked it up.. originally i was ghoing to buy a megasquirt ems for my supercharged probe and get that on 7psi and tuned.. im extremely happy i grabbed this instead.. it was 100 percent stock and well maintained.. and oddly much more fun to drive then the probe even thoug the probe obviously is putting out more power..

i havent done much to the mr2 since ive had it for such a short amount of time.. but heres some pics
this is 2 days after i got it home.. i started taping the front bumper up so i can spray the lip with duplicolor armor coat

a previous owner used a paint brush to paint the mirrors... wtf.. so i removed them and sprayed them with the armor coat as well...

here it is now that the job is done.. looks much cleaner

then i got to cleaning up the bay a bit.. and took the valve covers off and replaced the gasket and gave them a fresh coat of paint... i still need to polish the letters and shoot it with some clear..

yesterday i got rid of the crusty old muffler from 1988 and replaced the catback with a magnaflow and 2 1/4 piping.. sounds much better the the old rusty one.. and also took all of the lights off and did a lens restore.. ill have pics of that..

i am not aiming for any crazy amount of horsepower.. i just want to lower it on some low offset wheels and get it resprayed gloss black.. the motor is getting up there with miles so i MAY be replacing it with a silvertop 20v.. instead of buying a fresh 16v 4age.. but that will not be until the spring.. i plan to buy it around christmas/new years and put it on the stand and do some of the gaskets, timing belt and clean it up really well.. for now im focusing on getting some coilovers and wheels before going any further.. just looking to build a nice clean old school car i can daily drive, autocross and bring to some shows

From a fellow AW11 owner congrats on the pick up and good luck with the build. Any specific reasons why you wanna go with the 20v?

thanks man ! we should get together and head out to a meet or something sometime... going with a 20v mainly since it seems more cost effective to me.. i can get a silvertop a plug and play harness and an ecu for about 1200 my 16v has 180k.. would need a rebuild soon anyway lol

It's funny, every 1st Gen MR2 I see, the E-brake is almost always pulled up as far as it can go. I can't tell you how many I have seen where the E-brake is completely straight up lol.

thanks only thing i hate is the previous owner put a red carpet in the car.. the interior is blue with black seats and black door panel inserts.. idn what would make him put a red carpet in there lol now im going crazy trying to find a good used replacement or swallow my balls and order from one of those carpet sites and hope it fits... lol

update: this week im going to be ordering some b&g springs.. after seeing some pics i realized these are low enough to tuck 15s with a meaty tire or some 16s.. so id be content with going the konis and springs for now..

i found an 81 supra for sale locally.. if i can sell my probe gt this week im thinking about picking this up.. i have a boner for old school now
