Lightning - 1:19 hitting 135mph past the tower
Thunderbolt - 1:35 hitting 130mph past the tower I've got a lot of time to make up in the corners. I think 1:15 Lightning and 1:30 thunderbolt is possible. I only have 2 full track days under my belt and I only had an instructor on thunderbolt for about 20 minutes. My tuner said once we get the gauges installed and cooling worked out he'd like to see my car making 350 if we can keep the temps in check. A flex fuel setup is a possibility but I'm saving for a house so dropping $1000 on that setup to do it right is not doable right now.

I'm sure there's more time to be had pushing harder in the corners if your tires look like that (a bit more inner wear than outer) with that little camber. Are the rears worn more evenly?
My instructor at VIR had me try something that seemed odd at first... Coast into corners (brake early and let off the brakes early) and worry about getting the apex and exit right. When you're not unsettling the car with brakes you can figure out exactly what the limit is mid-corner. I did that for a few laps, building speed until the car was getting a touch out of shape and I was using every inch of track. Then my instructor told me that was my limit for today and to back it off a touch, but carry more speed in and try to approach the same limits when adding brakes. Not only was I much faster there, but I ended up being more comfortable so I wasn't getting stiff mid corner and trying to force the car around with jerky movements. aka I was scaring myself silly and tensing up making the car feel more on the limit than I was... This is a fantastic thing to practice when you don't get a point by, you end up giving them a bit more room and you carry a ton of exit speed to possibly line yourself up for a pass that otherwise may not have been possible. If you're curious what I mean, you can see me lifting and coasting down the "Roller Coaster" (after the back straight) in my VIR Full video. Once I figured out that I was nowhere near the limits I was literally just hitting the kerbing and sliding the car around like an idiot and giggling my head off. Tons of fun, but reeling it in a little was faster I think you'd benefit from having an instructor willing to help you push yourself really hard, but that will be tough to find when they see a car on slicks with all of that aero and power. I'd be nervous getting in a car like yours without some serious safety equipment... Street tires can't produce anywhere near the same grip so it's a lot slower and the tread blocks allow some forgiveness at the limit too with a pretty gentle breakaway. Thanks for some solid advice I'll make sure to try it once the events get going again. As far as tires go I currently run the RC-1 which is a very medium slick, to the point where guys can get as much as two full seasons out of a set, unlike Hoosiers which only last a handful of track days as I understand. Then Maxxis came out with the VR-1 in a 245 which is a Max performance summer type. This year, the TS4 from hammock, I believe a new Dunlop, and supposedly the new Rival will all come in my size. Problem is I'll be hard pressed to wear through there anytime soon
It's very balanced though and never feels unstable or unsafe it's just getting past my comfort zone of what's actually fast. When I did a half day with HOD my instructor who is also a good friend took me out before I went and I almost wet myself. It's the powering through corners and sometimes applying power too soon which sometimes leaves you coming out facing the other way or a guardrail

Yeah, the BRZ was VERY forgiving due to its relative lack of power. When it slid on track it was always pretty easy to catch before it got more than ~10 degrees sideways. In the rain was a different story, haha. I drove my buddy's stock car (500-ish HP? on bias-ply Hoosiers) and that had plenty of power oversteer. Much harder to feel "safe" at the limit with that much power, especially on vague tires like that.

Replaced the RC1 with Ventis RS4 and got the car detailed recently. Took it for a drive. It was very fun.

Car looks like a blast on the street. How did the RS4 compare for dry traction to the RC1?

Did not get to the track at all this year. Started a new job so I didn't want to take time off, or spend the money since we have our wedding coming up in April.

I am extremely happy with their backroad performance however. I never felt comfortable pushing the RC-1 around on the street, no idea why. With these, I am really gaining a lot more confidence to push the car around. I do look forward to next year on track with them

I understand, just busting your chops man.
I've not driven the RS4 yet (I drove A run at autocross on a base model Focus and scared the **** out myself bouncing it off the bumpstops), but supposedly they're good in rain |

I won't do much rain racing, maybe autocross. Every rain event I had to sit out when I had my RC-1 someone wiped out on the track. Once it was a 300zx. Then a Miata. I'd rather do low speed stuff in the wet.
Winter agenda: Install my Squaretop intake manifold Oil temp/pressure gauge water temp gauge valve cover gasket and other misc maintenance Not much else left to do really. I'd love some Elise seats Picture of USDM and JDM manifolds, decent improvement in mid range supposedly. Should get me from 330whp to 350whp without added boost.

Thought I posted this, just a little cruise with some fellow Miata friends before tucking her away for the year. The fun starts at the 1:00 mark

Are we friends on FB? I don’t think we’ve ever met. Then again I haven’t seen anyone from TST in years so maybe I forgot who’s who

Top pic is a few days after I got the car, bottom is current. Can’t believe I’ve had this car almost 10 years!
