Audi advice!

I'm looking to buy a used Audi A4, B5. It has 151kmi on it and its a 2000. The owner did the timing belt last year and just put new brake lines, pads, and rotors all around. My only problem is that it has a "oil leak" and it needs a thermostat. They said they dont know where the oil leak is but I think i have a hunch. I plan on doing the work myself if it isn't too crazy. (If i have to pull the motor i'll send it to the shop) In these pictures it shows the line that I think is causing the leak (being that the line is non-existent.) I'm not even sure what that is... any input would be great. (sooner would be better than later too) In the second picture it show where the line should go.... smh.

Looks to me like a cut hose (obviously) and im not 100% sure what its use it, but i deff had a hose there on my A4. By the look of it being out the front of the motor like that, the easiest way is to have someone turn the car on, and give it a couple revs while your watching that hose... see if anything comes out of it (oil, smoke, ect) I will forwarn you that when i had some valve issues with my Audi, it basically totaled the vehicle as i dont have any decent euro shops around here willing to work out prices... hence why i do not have the Audi anymore. With the timing belt, lines, bads and rotors, you saved a good $1800 in costs, thermostat is not a big deal on these, but that cut hose is slighly concerning. Hope some other audi nut comes by to help you out more. I will see if i can stop by my buddies house to get a look at his B5 to see what that is for sure.

Broken crankcase vent line and that one always breaks on the 1998-2001 Passat with the 2.8

VW Part # is 078-103-224-R and runs about $104
