you have a wiring issue. Does your CEL come on when the key is in the on position?

im using a usb-serial adapter. it does connect, i just have to be holding the key in the cranking position. i stay off the clutch so it doesnt crank and it will let me send calibrations and whatnot i just have to hold it while its sending.

your wiring is wrong. If your cel doesn't illuminate when your key is in the on position, your ECU is not getting power at that point, and it should be.

Wire it directly to the ignition wire off of your column. Make sure it's IGNITION and NOT ACCESSORY.
To test, ignition will read 12V when the key is in the on position, and when you turn the car on it will drop a few volts and go back to 12. If you have an Accessory, it will drop to 0V when the car is turned on.

I know when i turn my ignition on, my CEL doesnt come on. edit/ just did a quick search, couldnt find a s13 sr20det fsm. i found my old swap guide, and it doesnt show any wire for the CEL coming out of the ECU. did the SR20 run prior to you take out the e62 ecu? yea everything runs fine with the factory ecu pluged in (daily driven ) i just want to get my aem ems in and working, it just cranks and cranks and doesnt sound like its trying to start. but i cant begin to tune/fix anything if my laptop will only connect while it is in the cranking position. im testing every pin on the ecu harness for voltage and whatnot with the key on and while in the crank pos.

The SR ECU's have 2 12v ignition feeds, but only need 1 to work. But some of the aftermarket PnP systems need both to power up the computer. I have run into this several times with Power Fc... Not sure if AEM is the same but check the wiring diagrams
