Read up on the Digic IV processor. That's where the difference will be.

I don't know people are so hung on FPS, especially on a full frame body. People that use full frame bodies don't need 10 FPS. Heck, most sports photographers don't even need 10 FPS. 3 perfectly timed shots > 20 random trigger shots.

I've heard (don't own an FX camera) that you can change the camera into a DX mode or something therefore making it possible to use your DX and FX lenses. Which to me is sweet because if I ever get an FX camera, I don't want to loose my Sigma 10-20.

Canon won't allow you to use EF-S (DX) lenses on the 5DII. But I wouldn't want to anyway.

I don't know anything about that processor so that's good to check out.
And I agree, people that will be using the 5DII for its intended purpose don't need anything close to 10 FPS; I only use Continuous High when panning motorsports, otherwise I agree that "spray and pray" is never the way to go. Even the autofocus is way more than up to snuff. Just for me (and I'm sure many others), a higher burst rate and more modern AF would be more useful than a 5000+ px wide file.
The D700 has a very different purpose, which is why I disagree that Nikon's been beat.

I wonder how cheap 5D's will be in a few months

I just saw one listed on my photography forum for 1500 with a bunch of extra stuff and only 6000 clicks on it.

Anyone think that at some point all camera's will be full frame? And when we get older we'll be looking at our kids and saying, "when I was your age, I didn't even have full frame!"

just a thought

When they first came out? $3500-3900 for the kit, $2700-2900 for the body only. Prices have dropped to about $2000 body, $2800 kit, give or take $100. Prices were a little cheaper before the Canon price increase.

I bought my 5D during one of their rebates. I bought the kit and sold the 24-105 4.0L IS, so the net price of the body came out to about $1650. This was after the price increase. They were about $100-150 cheaper prior to the increase.

very cool, so in essence if the 5D drops to about 1500... your only going to be out 150 bucks or so which is awesome. Are you going to pick up a Mark II?

Not right away. I buy my bodies about 12-18 months after they are released for two reasons 1) manufacturer to work out any issues, 2) let someone else eat the depreciation. I'll upgrade the 1D MKII to the MKIII first, then the 5D MKI to the 5D MKII next. Most of my shots are with the 1D MKII / 70-200 combo, so another full frame body isn't high on the list of things to buy. I've been looking at for a 1Ds MKI to keep the 50 1.4 mounted, though. I prefer to have one body for each lens I use.

That's the way to look at it. You can spend a mint on cameras and still take pictures that look like $hit. When I got my D70 "back in the day", I bought Nikon because I had old Nikon glass that would work on the D70. Since then, I have "upgraded" from the D70 to a D2h, then a D2x, and now the D3. I have given the wife the D70 as a walk-about camera, sold the D2h (still miss the speed and file sizes), and I primarily use the D2x if light is good. If light is bad, and I need the speed, I pick up the D3.

You have to realize that eventually, any camera you buy will be improved upon by future models. At least it isn't as bad as computers. If that was the case, the new 5d would already be out of date.

I never knew you had a 1D body, that changes everything. Very cool, I'd like to one day get a full frame camera, but I don't think that will be anytime soon. I'm saving up a fortune just to pick up the Nikon 70-200VR.
