found this on a website...

The automatic merging function is only in Photoshop CS2. That doesn't mean you can't do it in PS7, it's just a lot more work.

To do it manually, you need to take the multiple images you took (basically one for the shadows, one for the mid-tones, and one for the highlights), load them in as individual layers in one image, and then use masks and blending modes to show the parts of each image you want to make up the whole. It's a lot more work

I'll try and take a stab. In my D50's menu there is a function called BKT set. This is bracketing. I set to AE & Flash and pick what EV levels I want. Usally 1.0 apart. Then while using a tripod you take three photos. The camera already sets the EV for you. One at 0.0, +1.0, and -1.0. Easy way of getting the needed images with out pushing other buttons then the shutter button.

I'm guessing the D50 doesn't have a Image overlay or if it does I haven't found it. I'm also guessing that it takes multi photos and merges them in camera?

I took two quick sets of photos this way. Set in Jpeg, to lazy to change and set it Raw. Also forgot. Anyway used photomatrix and merged to HDR and then Toned mapped. Then in CS2 some other adjustments. They where quickly taken.

Nothing to crazy, when merged they look better then the the plain EV photo taken. Figured so but anyway not my best. At least they look semi real and not over blown. Could of been better but meh, took me less then 10 mins to edit these.
