WARNING: Bootleg movies / music downloading

This is a friendly warning to my TSTers

I was recently caught, Downloading movies a month before people even heard of them & music.

I was set with Suspended internet until my hard drive was wiped, My ISP reactivated my internet.

2nd warning is Suspension of service for very long time.

3rd warning is LEGAL ACTION which means a lot.

just to inform you this is the steps taken for all ISPs, some can get right down to business, I was lucky.

AOL users will probably be safe, Along with users who use proxies.

I was using a bit torrents and another site that i know of and frost/limewire

a worker at my dads work also got caught recently, they removed all his PCs from his house and can no longer have them back and was severly fined

what bit torrent program were you using. did you update windows and let it install Windows Search?

might be part of your problem...

but that does stink. I don't download much anymore.

Your ISP Can see EVERYTHING you look at, Some also sell your cookies to data miners for money. Its not right, but they make money, when you are doing something illegal like that your taking up there bandwidth and also they were talking to me on the phone about copyright infridgement they weren't going to report me because they follow steps before they inforce.

Use Peerguardian. You did not get caught because of your ISP, you most likely got caught because you downloaded a torrent which was being watched. You should run PeerGuardian2 if you are on windows!

I don't download anything...i'm behind the times i guess.

my little brother has been using my laptop on a wireless service that i pay for, he's mentioned watching movies before they come out.

i assume i should probably put a stop to that as i'll be the one getting the phone call huh?

I quit downloding from "Sharing" sites back in the day when metallica and napster had their moment. I guess they're finally cracking down on internet based theft of music and movies. At least you didn't wind up in court or lose your comp....

Comcast doesn't say anything to you if you pirate stuff, i've never heard of a single report of them cancelling someones account for piracy. However i have heard of many ISP's doing this. The only thing comcast will get mad about is downloading 250gb a month or more, at which point they shut off your account until you call and have it fixed, then if you break the cap again, they will permanently disconnect you. That said, organizations such as the RIAA, the MPAA, often make fake torrents and such to catch pirates. They also watch what files you download. Programs like peerguardian can help this, but chances are some organizations still see it. And as the op said, your ISP knows everything you do.

A year or two ago I got an email from Comcast directly saying that HBO had contacted them and told them that I was downloading Entourage (which I did do using a Torrent on mininova.org I believe). They said this was a warning but if I was caught again that the service would be terminated.
I stopped for a long time... and my downloads are rare nowadays just because I havent been that into it.

Note to self, equip computer with a self destruct mechanism.

I'm on Comcast and I've been throttled before.

I've been emailed from Comcast for pretty much the same thing. I also stopped downloading for a long time after that.

I actually gave up on P2P or torrents all together and use something totally different nowadays. I rarely download stuff though, maybe a half a gig here and there. Tv show that I missed out on watching on Tv, the usual.

I got that same email about Entourage and nothing since. was a few years ago now. but you should only be getting in trouble if you're sharing your files. turn your sharing off and you should be good to go.

I've never downloaded anything before, but good looking out. I just passed this onto my buddy who does download music, and I hope he takes this seriously.
