looking for a short, fast, and wide lens.

I'm in need of a new lens. As the title says i need something shorter (18-30ish range. something fast (f2.8 at most.) and something fairly wide... canon mount.
Im hoping not to break the bank too much, so i have been looking at some non-Canon's. However I would like to stay canon for the quality (obviously) but haven't really seen anything right for a good price.

anybody have any suggestions?

from what ive found, any kind of canon wide angle you'll spend 400+ and 400 is cheap and not that wide. so your gonna want to spend around 6 or 7... now unless markets have changed in the 8 months since i got a new lense this is still the case best i can say is look on amazon.com

Well your criteria means break the bank unless you get a non canon mount. I always loved the 17-55 2.8 real freakin sharp but you can look at the Tamron 17-50 2.8 for half that price but not sure how sharp it is. Check out photographyonthe.net there are write ups on all Canon lenses

Cheapest & decent -- Canon 28/1.8
Middle price & good (find a good copy) -- Sigma 30/1.4
Expensive & good -- 24L v1
