v-8 S4s are kinda quick.

I was on my way home from meeting up to sell some parts today and had an encounter with a V8 Audi S4, Did a nice little pull with him and he kept up pretty well until about mid 3rd gear and then I started putting distance on him. Does anyone know anything about these. Im usually a euro hater but I was impressed for a stock car to put up that kinda fight. Much faster than the previous TTv6s.

We have a few of the v8 convertibles at work. It's a 4.2L 320hp I think, and of course has the QUATTRO system. Very nice cars, they are luxurious and fast and handle pretty well. I think MSRP on the verts was 50-60k new, we sell them for like mid-high 20s, 04 05 with 40-50k miles.

they are slow and heavy. the old b5 with the 2.7tt is a much more fun car to drive, plus people are starting to make serious power out of them. i'll let deb38 or another b5 s4 guy take it from there

They are slow... they run pretty similar times as the B5 (2.7TT) S4.

The b5 s4 came extremely detuned from the factory. Spend 500 dollars and you got yourself 315/380 power and run 12's.

There are people out there that don't mod their cars, just a thought. Besides, the bi-turbo motors from what I see at work are much less reliable than the 4.2L, we have sent a handful of allroads (2.7t), and a6 (2.7t) to Audi for warranty work (usually coil packs). The 4.2L equipped cars we get in, not so much. It's just a much more refined motor and is more of a pleasure to drive IMO.

The 2.7 is a great motor, and given the time that it was released (late 90's), I'd say it was fairly powerful given its time. As far as reliability, sure it could have its problems. Granted you take care of it and do the basic maintenance, you will be fine.

The only maintenance I had to do with my s4 when it wasn't heavily modified, were the throttle body boot replacement and oil changes.

From a performance point of view, as you would argue in your "fast" comment, I'd say the B5 is a much better option than the B6/B7, modified or not.

I suppose it's a case by case basis, but the bi-turbo motors caused my dealership a great deal of hassle and after we sell the remaining stock we have of cars equipped with it, I am pretty sure we are sticking to the 3.2, and 4.2, and older 3.0 models as well though they are usually trade-ins so we don't have much of a picking game there.
