what? ever since the economy nose dived 6 years ago they only do sniffer test. they got rid of checking all the other garbage (i failed for 11 different things once).
so easy to pass now.
you running catless?

They still do a visual check for cats though. And they only do a sniffer if your car isn't OBDII. I have to have to swap out my catless bosal downpipe modded with a QTP exhaust cutout to pass inspection. Lucky for me they never seem to notice my EWG.

I agree NJ inspection sucks, but it sucks because it's pointless since you can pass with a complete piece of crap.

Passing is easy.
Step 1: have a properly maintained car with emissions equipment.
Step 2: collect free sticker

I'm due for inspection soon. I passed last time swapping in a test pipe. I'm a turbocharged previously n/a car with a lot of crap done to pass emissions, but I did it!

it is. it's sniffer only.
i have obdII and i pull in, get out, they punch some ish into the computer, stick the sniffer in, slap a sticker on my windshield. pretty simple stuff really.
the whole point of sniffer is to make sure you are running a cat. so of course dudes will fail or be hassled if they are catless. hence the bitchfest i presume. but to say NJ inspection sucks is.....stupid or puppies. cause they obviously didnt have a license and/or a car 5 or 6 years ago when it really was....sucky.

btw - a 100 cell or 200 cell racecat will pass if warmed up. but that 1.75 HP is left on the table instead of catless. or is it the noise people are hardon for? noise. heheheheh

My brother just took his v10 superduty through last month and passed no problems. He doesn't even have cats. The guy had to crawl under his truck to get to the turndowns under the cab. I was telling him he was gonna fail and he came back with a grin so I knew he must have passed somehow. He told me they didn't say a word..
So it could be the station your going to? Maybe. Idk. We go to the one on rt 1 by quakerbridge mall for what it's worth..

A proper metallic 200 cell cat on our engine dyno routinely sees about... 2-5HP less per pull with engines putting out about 340-370CHP. Catless doesnt add much and will only make you fail. Spend some bucks and get a high flow cat in there, problem solved.

By far we have more customers that have problems inspecting modified cars in NJ than any other state in the tristate area.

Just to piggyback off this, the Spec V made it through inspection again this time (tuned by you guys). Catless, no SES light. They just passed me.

Thanks again!

Time for my biennial appearance at DMV. Let's hope the mid pipe/3rd cat swap gets me through....

Actually, as far as emissions, I think it's equilateral with PA. There's a slight loophole in PA's code that basically allows for the "visual" test for emissions equipment to be passed over if the car passes dyno/sniffer test. This would obviously require your monitors to be functioning correctly and your tune to be on point, but it's how I've legally gotten stickers on my cars in the past, despite running catless, no charcoal can, etc.

I failed for missing 3rd cat, swapped the 3rd cat in, passed and then promptly removed 3 rd cat once again.

When my cousin replaced his exhaust system with an aftermarket exhaust kit. Inspector thought that it doesn't have any CAT installed and it won't pass the inspection. Good thing my cousin brought with him the exhaust kit brochure and he was able to point out the were the CAT is.
