Stubby Antenna Radio Quality

I just got my stubby antenna in the mail today. It looks great, but... the quality of the radio is very crappy now. I knew the quality would get worse b/c of how small it is compared to the stock one, but didn't think it would just suck. It says on the site that the antenna has "built in amplification to prevent reception lost" ...BS I also noticed that there are 2 little holes on the antenna (look at pic below) the hole basically goes straight thru and the metal antenna inside is exposed (you can see the metal if you look in the hole) doesn't this mess things up when the bare metal antenna inside gets wet?? I know the REAL OEM Sharan antenna does not have these holes. Will the Real one be ne better?

This is the one i purchased: http://bit.ly/91RHsS

I didn't buy the same one, but with my shorty antenna (wal-mart special, worst 8 bucks I ever spent....) it sucks worse than my cut down stocker...

Apparently the "Real Sharan" one that you can get from VW is just as good as my long stock one... but its like 60 bucks.

I'd rather stay stock... for 60 bucks IDK if it's worth it, for me anyway, I only listen to one radio station and it's a talk show...

Same here, love listening to them in the mornings... When they did the impersonation of Bill Cosby a while ago I lost it, and I'm not one to laugh as soon as I wake up

x2. I had one on my Ranger before I sold it, and it worked pretty good. I got mine at Advance, and never had a problem with it.

I gave up on VW Radio work, reception always sucked on my car. Best bet if you want small get an in-windshield and fill the whole on the roof or the antenna base.
