Launch help

Here is the best video from the track a few weeks back. I'm not sure what to do to improve I got a 1.875 and 1.876 on the two runs I made that night. I was 2 stepping at 5500 w/ tire pressure @ 20psi in all 4. Any ideas? I'm still new to the AWD thing this was my 3rd time to the track with the Talon.

I don't know, I don't have experience with awd but if you are spinning I'd launch at a lower rpm on street tires

The problem with lowering my launch rpm I can only spool to 11psi and it falls on it's face off the line no matter how long I slip the clutch. I'm starting to think I'm waisting my time going to Cecil on fridays. I hook up better on the street

Is that you hitting your rev limiter on the line. Instead of holding an RPM try blipping the throttle until you launch. I dont know if that works in a DSM but thats how I launch my WRX and im sure plenty will agree it works.

I heard from a few people that they launch better not using the 2 step. My guess is to try it, maybe it will work for you. Do you have dsmlink?

Just my opinion but i think you 17" wheel are what are kill your launch...i could be wrong but I'd say it is taking more effort to get those suckers to start moving and if you had a smaller wheel yo would be able to launch a little lower in the rpms and ideally grip better...or you just get some slicks and you would be able to launch higher...

If the car falls on it's face when you're launching then it's bogging. You'll have to launch at a higher RPM to stop it from doing that. I have to launch at 5750 when I'm at the track.

The car bogges when I launch below 5500 an spins at 5500. That is why I dropped tire pressure to 20 psi. You think itcould just have been a tire temp problem? I sat for well over an 1 1/2 hrs between passes. I did drive around the water box and I didn't do any form of a burn out.

the tire diamiter of my stock 16 to my 17 is allmost identical (25.3110/25.3267"), but they are also 2" wider rims

it wasnt the overall hight of the tire he was concerned about...the fact that the 17's weight more it take more effort to get them spining (not to mention the fact that the smaller sidewall doesnt allow as much flex, therefore not as much traction.) try the ATCO mod...atco usually has awesome track prep but be warned your probably wont spin and are just gonna kill your clutch

the 17's weights 42lbs with the stock rims weights 44.5lbs with the tires mounted. but the side walls are way stiffer on the 17. I didn't think of the side wall flex for launching

even if his rims weighed less he still is gonna spin. i could see if you were bogging no matter what your rpm was..then id say bump up the tire pressure(im gona be questioned about that...lol. bring it). hes obviously making to much power for those tires. like brazen said you need something with a little more bite to them...a wider tire or drag radial. also the time sitting might be a factor also.

You cant turn it off but you can disconnted it. I read that people dont get good results with lowering tire pressure and street tires for awd. I would put your tires at 30psi and try again without 2-step

i would usually agree but he said hes spinning...wouldnt that mean hes making too much power?

NO. Lower tire pressure helps if the tires are made for it....like drag rad. I dont think street tires like such low pressure, but theres only one way to find out.
