what would you pay for a beat up 65 gt350?
not sure if it runs, exhaust needs to be aligned, not sure about rust... we'll say this is a car that needs a restoration. we'll assume the motor runs but not so well, assume the trans is going... etc etc etc... |

Well consider that a fully restored GT350 goes for around $30-35,000, account for $30,000 for a well done frame off resto, and I wouldn't pay more than $5000 for it assuming that it's in HALF decent shape. Lots of people would probably pay between $5000 and $10,000 though.

I think it was a 65... that would mean it would be 1 of 562 built. I saw prices online of beautiful gt350's going for mid 100k range.
The shelby cars within the last 5 years or so have sky rocketed in value. |

they've got 18k on it right now... even if I paid that (if I could) and put 30k into the resto... and sell for 100k...
I'm fairly certain it'd be worth more than 5k as it sits... possibly more than 20k considering the restored vehicles prices. I'm really not sure what the shape is, nor do I think I can get a bank loan for the amount... but I think I'm gonna look into this car further and see what I can do... I would die to have an original 65 gt350 |

there are a lot of variables to buying up old muscle. Original motor, trans, rear? Any aftermarket add ons? How much rust? And many many more things factor into this. I'd say if it was a real original gt350....ranges from 5-10k since they are so rare.

Depends on what its worth to you, and how much work you can do yourself.
If you want to sell it as a frame off resto, beware there are not many bodyshops that can match all of the OEM details for a "concours" resto, and even fewer people with that deep of pockets, expect to pay 20k in body/frame work to get it looking "OEM perfect". Then you have to get new interior parts,(the ones that match the oem stuff ain't cheap) engine/trans done, and service the rest of the mechanical parts. To get the "concours" quality they look for factory inspection stamps and tags around the body, overspray in the right places, bare metal with cosmoline treatment for suspension parts, the right tires/wheels/beauty ring combo, flaws in certain areas of the paint, flaws in factory bodywork, (EX-lead seams were never done perfect, and always had a few flaws in them) These people are Ultra-anal about these details and will damn near dissect your ride looking for them. Having all these details is the only way you will be able to get the big bucks for a car. Another thing to consider, alot of the people who were shelling out big coin on vehicles were people buying on the equity of their home, bonuses from their real estate transaction, and other investments. With the market in the particular position it is in, there may not be many people willing to fork over that kind of loot for a restored car. I'd say 5- 10 g's for it as well.

if 5-10 is all its worth that bodes well for me... I can come up with that a lot easier than 18k... I may be able to borrow some of that from my parents due to an inheritance... the gt350 was the first car I fell in love with.
but then again, if the seller has 18k on it... I doubt he'll sell it for under 14-15k... |
