procedure for trading a car

Im supposed to be trading my 240 for an Rx7 tomorrow. Now the car im trading for has no inspection. I was told by some people that if i call my insurance company and switch the cars over I can drive it home. Now the car will not be insured in my name but another family member of mine. Could I have the owner sign a bill of sale and me sign the title and drive it home with my tags i currently have on my 240? I dont want to get a ticket for having an uninspected/insured car.
