carbon fiber wrap jobs.

i always liked seeing build up threads, step-by-step welding job threads, bodywork... etc.

I don't really do any of them, but I do wrap vinyl.
(I just signed up to be a vendor here, seeing how I'm local and all...)

So here are some pics of the last few weekends:

Not when you use a vacuum setup and learned the ins and outs after wasting hundreds of dollars in materials.

I may be sending a few customers your way to wrap some interior pieces.

I don't like it you can tell it's vinyl, it's kind of like rotas. And the weave looks like it distorts when you streatch, but hey it's a cheap alternative I can't even tell you what I'd charge people to make them from real carbon.

I say you guys use this on something simple like an armrest and try to clear it. I'm really interested in the whole clearing process because if it works that just made this stuff that much better. I may do some small pieces if the clearing turns out good.

You could never clear this, the material would just suck it up it wouldn't work that's why it's dry carbon look. If you cleared it even if you got the result you wanted(wouldn't happen) it would flake right off.

So you can't order it with a gloss finish? I don't see why they couldn't make it, theres a lot of vinyl you can get.

How crazy can you get wrapping interiors? I'd like to see some pics of that. I have to find some black interior pieces for my car and I might be interested in wrapping some of it if I can.

This is completely wrong and untrue.

Well when you start clearing vinyl with a quality automotive grade clear let me know, there is no proper way to prep vinyl to clear it. I am in no way bashing 3m products or what you do it just won't work an last. It sucks even to clear dry carbon/graphite thy absorb alot of the clear it's weird. I have been painting a long time and wouldn't clearnor recommend clearing vinyl. I'd just use it to look like dry carbon, clearing it will only lead to problems.

The vinyl won't absorb anything, but I'm not sure if we'll be able to use an "automotive grade" clear on it.
A layer of resin, then clear- like normal carbon fiber would most likely turn out much better.

i do have some other ideas on the back burner that may work though.

When absorbing I ment the cf cloth, I'm really not sure if resin would work. If you don't use quality stuff however I doubt it will hold up to weather and road debris. I think using resin could get a bit messy and appear uneven.
