You read my mind........ man if I ever have an insane amount of disposable cash, I will build one. I've always wanted to have a fun wagon with big power.
This engine is an M60b30, and there is an M60b40 from a 540i sedan that drops right in. There is also an M62b44TU in later cars that you can use the shortblock from and slap the heads/timing components/sensors from the b30/b40 to get you a high compression M60b44. You honestly wouldn't even need to go through the $10K hassle of an LS swap. These transmissions are bulletproof too, and there are stout 6sp variants available as well that bolt right up from the 540i Msport cars.
All you'd need is to build a stout m60 and build a turbo kit and you'd be set to make crazy power in this thing.

Someday! It's just so tough to go down this road because you won't get but a penny back out of it if you decide to sell later on.
